Thanks Rob and Lynn for the comments and advice.
A month ago I filled the tank with 5 gallons of gasoline and the content softened somewhat.
The products that Rob recommends are difficult to obtain here in Argentina, that is why I opted for a hand cleaning with a putty knives and some easy and inexpensive solvent that I can find here.
Then we will have to make some covers, riveting and soldering with tin.
