Default strap opening

The narrow original strap is shy, making the opening large enough to accommodate the brass tip of a standard blanket roll strap may be appropriate.

Thank you Michael! Exactly what I needed. From the marks on the tray, it looked like it might be a narrow strap. The photos help a lot. Without a suitable strap, I can just imagine the tin sliding out, falling open, and 300 rounds of .303 ball going everywhere! A designed disaster!
At least in the Bren Carrier, the tray sat flat on the track guard.

The strap as found fitted to a P37 map case fits the slot.
