Default Inch of steel under your tail in a Chevy

Funny that you should post those pictures today I have been fitting new diamond plate on my Pattern 12 Chevy the last couple of days. and if you think about it with all the layers unders the seat in the Chevy there is over an inch of steel while in every other direction you have generally only one or two layers of 16 gage sheet metal.

Any body know what they used for the wood spacers oak or maple?
