Default B series

Hi Mike,

I have six piston kits in almost identical packaging for my Daimler Ferret Scoutcar.

The Austin Champ (B40), Daimler Ferret (B60), Saracen/saladin (B80) and many more post war British MVs shared a common basic engine design in the Rolls Royce ‘B’ series, whether 4,6 or 8 cylinder range they shared a very high commonality of parts interchangeability.

Pistons were issued in pairs for obvious reasons of fkexibility across the B series range

You may recall I had a Mk1 FV432 APC project years ago and it too had a Rolls Royce B81 Mk 8F petrol engine.

Imho they are a beautiful feat of engineering, slightly old fashioned for an early 1950s design but robust, very very reliable if heavy on fuel.

Not all B series engines were actually manufactured by Rolls Royce themselves (Insert raging debate here)

If you want to sell those two I would be interested I recall I may have a set of 4 in a box somewhere from an Austin Champ clearout

Cheers

Phill

Default Tachometer

Hi Mike,

It may well be suitable for Ferret. I tried looking it up in my photocopied parts book but some pages are missing including the instrument panel 😳

I will keep researching

Cheers

Phill

I think that tach goes on many of the vehicles of that era. There are a few advertised on line.

Hello Mike,
Norm Withers passing marks the end of an era. I remember Hillman Spares in Blackburn very well and it's morphing into Spares galore in Ferntree Gully.
I used to wander around the FTG store searching for a "bargain" and remember all the Ex military Land rover stock lying around. Automotive Surplus in Mitcham was mentioned as purchasing some of Norm's stock when spares Galore ceased trading. Norm's brother Graham was a fixture in the drag racing community and ran a speed shop in Melbourne and Norm's son Jim does the classic car parts stuff as well but I assume you already know all that.
Cheers
Bill
