I have asked this question myself as I have a HUP as well and I installed two ebay mirrors on it. I kept the little bracket in place as it aids in keeping tension on the mirror arm.
I have also seen ones like the one on the left whereby a piece of tube is substituted for the bracket to use on trucks.
Which way is correct? Does it really matter?
Here's a pic showing how one of these mirrors was fitted to a CMP truck mirror arm ... boy, will this guy be in trouble when the MP's find out it isn't fitted correctly
