I can't find it right now but there's a huge article with original documentation on the net somewhere by my friend and almost neighbour Clive Elliott, it concerns the WWII use of our IR night vision system "Tabby". IIRC some experiments were done with various material for route marking allowing safe and speedy driving using the Tabby equipment without any visible light source.
