power question?

I think its not advancing.
She has a distributer off of an old ford pilot 8 lubes.

I've just got hold of a new Distributer with 4 lubes, and will try to fit this weekend.


Question:

On the old pilot dis (8 lube) spark plug leads 1, 2, 3, 8, are on right side
and 5,6,7,and4 on the other side of distributer is this correct.
See picture.

On the new one (4 lube) 1 to4 on right and 5 to 8 on left.
Also there is no vacume pipe.
