Although I need quite a few bits, one thing that does annoy me is not having a dipstick for the b****y engine! if anyone has one they would like to part with or can point me in the right direction i would appreciate it

I can probably help if you're stuck.. what length of dipstick do you need? I have a few spares around here some where... Phil has a real good piece on his site about the different kinds...

I had never even stopped to think there maybe so many alternatives and remember once being told to make sure I over filled it 'to be on the safe side!' No doubt the voice of reason tempered with the use of the wrong dip stick! kind regards nick |

Couple of things to check which oil pan you can see that the true CMP Chevy engine has a deep sump. With the dip stick located in the pan. While the standard Chevy truck/car pan has the dip stick located in the lower edge of the block.

			Colin ,

If you have a early C8 , the engine will have 1940 civilian type set up , e.g., dip stick in block . The sumps varied somewhat , depending on date , model of truck etc. The Chev. major assemblies catalogue ( well worth getting from Alex B. ) , gives a run down on the different types of sump they used. Its a 1941 model (If thats correct), I'll check the sump and see what the set up is.
