I have a panel beater friend, who a couple of years ago bought a mig that has a spot welding set up with it (I think they're using high tensile in cars now) he does a lot of truck repairs.
Anyhow, what I'm alluding to is that a spot welding capability in a modern panel shop, may be a fairly common thing ,so access to a modern, functional spot welder might not be too difficult
