Wanted: A bare English Bren Carrier hull in Australia.
I have a cut hull with running gear and track , but I am looking for another hull, preferably uncut, or not badly butchered, as I have some sections. Also looking for any parts for an English carrier, engine cowl, air inlet , steering wheel, etc, or leads to parts. Track and running gear not necessary as I have plenty. thanks for looking.

Hi Eric Szalanda
Im sorry to say that you will probably not find what you a looking for as English universal carriers aren’t as plentiful as Australian produced ones but hope is not lost English and Canadian Carriers are identical and you could order what you need hear is a link to Midwest Military http://www.midwestmil.com/brencarrier.html or you could have the parts made from work shop drawings but make sore that the drawing are for an English carrier as Australian Carriers are slightly different in size and construction. I think there is drawings in the numerous manuals for the carrier your best bet would be the work shop manual you could post an add on this sight for a manual and you should be able to find one. |

Eric, Drop by and talk to John Belfield. He has this one in his yard, could be just what you're after.

It is an uncut hull in fairly good condition, can even still make out it's rego number, T38540. Maybe Nigel could tell us some info on that number.

Unfortunately the records show that T38540 was allocated to a General Stuart Tank! Is there any chance it could be either T28540 (MkI Carrier OP built by Sentinel Wagon between June 1940 and July 1941), or T58540 (3" Mortar Carrier MkI built by Sentinel Wagon in November 1941). If the 8540 part of the number is correct then these are the only two numbers it could be. You probably have clearer photos of the numbers but looking at the one posted could it even be 63540? ( Thornycroft made MkI or MkII built June 1941 and April 1942). Any of the other number combinations are for other vehicles, not carriers. If the front armour is still intact infront of the driver's position, the details should be stamped on the edge of it almost directly infront of the driver.
Sorry I couldn't be more precise, but let me know what you turn up. Thanks Nigel

The photo of the bare hull, is it owned by Rod Keys of Dalby?
Does he still have it? I was out in SW Qld a couple of months ago. Doh! I am looking for a bare hull as previously stated. I have access to a complete English carrier and can make repro bits of it. I have cut new sides for the hull, but I am not looking forward to rivetting it! I wonder if John Bellfield has a bare hull.

Eric, I do know of another one here in Vic, I will contact the owner to see if he is interested in parting with it. He values his privacy so send me a PM & I will get back to you.
