Default cmps in films or tv

Have Cmps appeared in many films or on tv or old newsreels, mine was rumoured to have been in Eisenhower the war years or something similar in name?

Default CMP film

Somewhere I have an old VHS tape about the history of the Ford Motor Co. and it has a few seconds of CMP testing. I haven't watched it in years. If some one near me has a way to copy it to a CD I would lend it to them.

A few years ago, a friend of mine appeared with his C60L in a programme on British TV about the comedian, Tommy Cooper. It was supposed to be in the Western Desert during WW2, but was filmed on Camber Sands in Sussex.

Default Munsters

There was also a F60L featured in "Munster go home" (1966) where the Munsters go to England.

I was watching a bit of the movie "Seven Years in Tibet" the other night. Just after Brad Pitt's character gets arrested they are loaded up into some Brit Army trucks. I was plesently supprised to see not one but two Chevy Cab 13 trucks. One was a C15a and the other looked to be a C30 or C60.

The only problem was that it was 1940 and those models wouldn't have been out yet. Nontheless it was still a treat to see them.

G'day All, A wreck can be seen the opening scenes of Von Ryan's Express, it is used as a form of solitary confinement, later in the film the Italian commandant ends up doing a short stint in the dog box attached to it, I don't know whether it's a Ford or a Chev anyway cheers Dennis

Hello Alan,
Your F30 appeared in Ike: The War Years, a TV serial circa 1978/9.
It has been available on CD but a search only came up with a dealer in Australia and flagged as "Temporarily out of stock"! Maybe one of our MLU friends has a copy, or someone in Oz can go and bang on the Dealer's door for you. I used to have it on video but lent it out and, of course, it never came back.
Thanks for the photos: the second one looks as though the taker had a bad dose of the shakes. Excitement or despair?
I've been over to the farm twice to see how you are getting on and I'm impressed with the progress. Keep up the Good Work!
Regards, Rhett.

Default LHD

I did, and tried to see any indication how it was done underneath the front...odd!! With the twin rears, I wondered whether it was a CMP cab grafted onto something else? Now Hanno seems to imply that this was the case.

The Dumbo Drop CMP was discussed on the old MLU forum many years ago, I think we came to the conclusion it is a true bitsa of which many can be found in e.g. Burma, where I believe this movie was shot.

Just watched this movie recently and was surprised to see a CMP in it. The LHD had me confused too and so I searched MLU thinking it may have been discussed in the past. According to wikipedia the movie was filmed in Thailand.

9th Div Cab 12 in Caunter scheme from the Czech movie Tobruk. Quite a long scene featuring the vehicle including from inside the cab with some nice gear whine.

Default Has that Tobruk movie been released?

Hi Tony

Has that Tobruk movie been released? And if so in what countries and under what title?

Those are great screen shots.

I notice that the truck in the top shot doesn't seem to have the expanded metal grill and in the last shot it does. Also the Ford in the last shot seems to have the expanded metal Chevy style instead of Ford crossed wire style, looking at period pictures it looks like these got swapped around or removed completely.

Cheers Phil

Hi Phil,

It's a 2008 Czech movie and was released in the US in 2009. I saw it on TV here but it's available on DVD/Bluray from the UK:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Tobruk-DV...item460e9730f8

I had another look at this 4 minute scene and I believe the grille is present throughout but the lighting angle in certain parts makes it look missing. As you say it's the expanded metal type, I've never understood why these appeared so commonly on Fords....?

In 1984 a movie was made mostly at Singleton army camp in Hunter Valley it was called The Cowra Breakout, there were two CMPs 13 cabs used in the movie among other vehicles. One of them was constantly used with the main actors, the other one wasn't as much,it was owned by my father which he also drove in the movie.

Me and our group were the extras for this movie. We spent a month in the desert in Tunisia. The CMP is out of the Czech Rokycany museum. Here is a report on our website (sorry in Czech only) http://www.rotanazdar.cz/index.php?o...id=100&lang=cs

Default A kiwi made movie

called "Bad Blood" featured a C8AX. It is the story of Stanley Graham, who shot dead a number of police and citizens in 1941, as he wasn't too happy about having to hand over his rifles for the Home Guard. A major manhunt ended with his death some weeks later. Apparently Lord Hawhaw sent a message that Hitler would send a man to hold the North Island, while he held the South!

Rob
ps we saw the truck parked up in Greymouth in late 1984 as we recovered another C8AX

Hello Alan,
No "think" about it. It is definitely your F30 with yours truly behind the steering wheel, wearing a beret, battledress blouse, jeans and trainers! Happy Days (sigh). have you freed that engine yet?

I think I mentioned this before - if you can tear your eyes off Tia Carrere for a second or two, a CMP appears as a "Chinese truck" in one or more episodes of Relic Hunter (filmed in TO, so someone must know whose it was). A good show for Land Rovers, too, and a Rover P5 car shows up in some as "generic Third World auto." Various deuces appear in other episodes, as well.
