I would say they are all BSA WM20 in that photo, cannot see a 16H Norton there. Also, I am pretty certain that these are new, unissued machines and not refurbished, several details point to that. I also note that they must be fitted with the Vokes air filter (often known as the "desert filter"), as those on the benches have the intake pipe fitted to the carbs. Do you have any more photos of motorcycles at Pearsons? Or do we have to buy the book ![]()

I understand that there are Norton mudguards at the back hanging up?
That's the only m/c photo from memory. I hve to get the date of the photo from my Boss and co-author. apart from two shots with Canadian Harleys! By contrast there is about 8 Jeep photos, with of Candain Jeeps, the rest being US and British. Can anyone suggest what the lorries on the left might be please? If anyone has sent Trans-Pennine Publishing an e mail can you please re-send as the telecom company pulled the plug on the messaging system and we have lost orders as a result of messages bouncing back to the senders?

Look at the right hand end of crate in the foreground, the Norton stencil is used, but not spraying "Norton" in. From the lettering on the other side, BSA was on a separate stencil. No posing, just using one stencil for both. I am certain, these are new BSA's that are being dismantled for crating.

Well done Richard...you must be right! R=The woman is using the same stencil but trying not to let overspray get under "NORTON". Are those 16H mudguards on the wall? I agree that these are being dismantled and crated up for onward transhipment...to where? Overseas, certainly, but Far East? Who knows!

The lower ones, front mudguards, look to be M20, I think the rear ones on upper rack are also. The lower back end of the rear mudguard is separate, to enable removal of wheel, this part is does not seem to be visible in the photo.

PM03 After The War Was Over – The Pearson’s Of Liverpool Story
Quite some considerable time ago, we announced a forthcoming and extremely fascinating book on the Canadian and American military vehicles that were assemble in Liverpool during World War II , unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control this company lost the premises it operated from and had its entire staff affected by Carbon Monoxide Poisoning, as the landlords had installed a defective gas space heating system. I am however delighted to say that, after all this time this beautifully illustrated book book is now going to print and will be available in December as a 148-page hardback book. It contains 214 hitherto classified photographs of outstanding quality (taken from 12’’ x 10” glass negatives) to present a view of the 'secret' goings-on around Wavertree and Edge Hill. Here, in bombed-out factories and on waste ground around Smithdown Lane, Overbury Street, Crown Street, Queensland Road and Falkner Street, a vast fleet of military vehicles were erected in great secrecy. The 148-page hard-back book will be produced entirely in black and white, with a sepia tone dust jacket, and is in an A4 landscape format. The first 250 mail order customers will have their names printed in a subscriber's list at the book, making this a very valuable personal memento. It will only have a limited print run edition of 1,500 UK copies, each of which will be individually numbered and signed by the authors. A further 100 de-luxe hand-crafted and leather bound copies will be available at a cost of £99.50, and these will also be signed by the authors, numbered and posted to UK addresses by Special Delivery secure mail at no extra cost. Regards David Hayward on behalf of Prof Alan Earnshaw (co-author) and myself Price: £25.00 plus first class post and packaging of £4 to UK addresses (Overseas at cost). To confirm your order, please: Telephone me, Kevin Bradley or one of my colleagues on: UK: 017683 51053 (Mondays to Saturdays 10am to 4pm) or International: +44 1768 351053 Or e-mail kevin@transpenninepublishing.co.uk Send a cheque or postal order to: Trans-Pennine Publishing Ltd., PO Box 10, Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria CA16 6FA, United Kingdom Or order securely on line: http://www.transpenninepublishing.co...-earnshaw.html Last edited by David_Hayward (RIP); 22-11-08 at 20:59. |

The book is being printed now...so some may prefer to reserve pending notification. However a) all monies are refundable and b) those who have paid will get theirs sent out straightaway as against those who have reserved but invited to pay the balance due.
I understand that your order has gone through Mr S! ![]() |

The books have been printed and are being bound, and should be sent from the binders to the office today/tomorrow ready for posting.
I am hopeful that we can then go forward to the next book on wartime GM plants in England. |

Just keep your fingers crossed that Royal Snail Mail does not let us all down. Some postal workers are on strike so as to cause as much mayhem as possible...
![]() I gather that those who have ordered but not yet paid will have their copies sent as soon as confirmation/payment has been made. Then I need to start drawing up the printed correction sheets and updates as all the comments start pouring in!!!! ![]() |

Royal Snail Mail has triumphed!
![]() A team managed to get all of the books that had been ordered for Xmas delivery out and the cost of postage was stupendous! The next book is planned and if this present one is a success then we can get it published as well. In the meantime, as a prequel to the Pearsons story, buy VINTAGE ROADSCENE issue 110 January 2009 issue out now. Please. http://www.roadscene.com |

The trouble was that the Australian and NZ copies had to be specially printed upside down, which took time. That meant the printer had to be turned over and the guys stand on their hands.
![]() Actually I am still waiting for an airmail item sent from Yankeekland three weeks ago. There is no rhyme or reason sometimes with air mail. Keith, I asked my colleague to mail you a free gift from me for Xmas as well. As promised! |
