and much safer than the MacPherson strut spring compressor I used earlier. It doesn't scratch the paint on the springs either! Only problem I found was the number of turns required of the fine thread to get the spring rod to clear the bracket.

I have got one of the tools and had a new centre piece made to suit the Whitworth threads on the nos English spring rods.
