Default pilot

During my stint driving veterans on ANZAC day in Melbourne , I was allocated the Australian Flying Corps from WW1 . This was 1979-1980 . The old chap I drove the second year was a pilot . He told me the rate of deaths among the WW1 air crews was very high . He said he was one of the few surviving original pilots from his squadron after his initial 6 months stint of duty flying RE 8 recce. aircraft . Wish I could remember his name , he was from Victoria's Western District from memory .

The first chap from 79, was an observer , in the back seat doing the plotting of artillery .
