Steering Column Removal ?

Hi Guys ,
Can anyone tell me the best way to remove the Steering wheel from the Steering Column ? Is the Steering Wheel and shaft one unit or are the bolted together somewhere ? I have removed the steering box and coloumn as one unit but i need to take the wheel off as it has had it .
