Unregistered Vehicle Permit

An unregistered vehicle permit (UVP) will allow you to drive an unregistered vehicle on a road for restricted use.

The permit does not allow:

1. A vehicle to be used between the hours of 7:00pm and 7:00am, except in the following circumstances -

where a vehicle is collected from the place of purchase to be driven to the residence of the owner or the garaged address nominated on the permit; or
single trip journeys where specified on the permit form;

2. A vehicle to be used to collect parts.

An unregistered vehicle permit is not a temporary registration. The vehicle must be safe for use on the road and used within the conditions of the permit.

An unregistered vehicle permit cannot be issued if:

the vehicle is currently under suspension
the vehicle is currently registered
there is an uncleared defect notice on the vehicle

Duration
An unregistered vehicle permit is normally issued for up to 28 days for vehicles. However, where VicRoads determines it is impractical or unreasonable to register the vehicle, a permit can be issued for a longer period.

Permits cannot be extended. If you require more time you will need to apply for a new permit.

How to apply
You can apply for a permit by:

phone - calling VicRoads on 13 11 71 (Mon-Fri 8.30am - 5.00pm, Sat 8.30am - 2.00pm). You can pay by credit card (Visa or Mastercard). You will need access to a fax machine for the permit to be sent; OR
in person - visiting a VicRoads Customer Service Centre. You can pay by cash, cheque, EFTPOS or credit card (Visa or Mastercard).


You will need to provide:

Your personal details:

full name and address
vehicle's garage address
telephone number
fax number (if applying for permit over the phone)

Permit details:

start date and time
number of days required

Vehicle details:

year of manufacture
make
model
body type
colour
either the engine, Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or chassis number

Fees
The fee for an unregistered vehicle permit will vary depending on the number of days the permit is issued for, the type of vehicle and where it is garaged.

There are no fee concessions available for unregistered vehicle permits.

Interstate Use
Unregistered vehicle permits are generally issued for use in Victoria. However, under reciprocal arrangements, permits issued for interstate travel, eg. to go to a place of registration, are recognised by interstate authorities.

Permits do not need to be issued when the origin of a trip is in another jurisdiction, except in cases where another jurisdiction requests a permit to be issued.

With regards to the permits, which for the event MUST be RTA permits issued in NSW and not Vic Roads permits. If you run with a Vic Roads Permit you can be charged.

The steps to take to obtain an RTA permit are as follows:

1/ Fill out the application form and either Fax, e-mail or Post the form to the Corowa RTA office. Please attach the poster/event flyer if you have it. If not they have one on file so ensure that you put a note in with your application to inform them that it is for the KVE annual GPA Swim-in/Military Vehicle event. This will ensure you are covered for the event.

2/ On arrival at Corowa go to the RTA office (it's in the council offices) and pay for and collect your permit and show your proof of ID (ie drivers Lic.).

For those that are arriving on the weekend we will attempt to make arrangements to collect your permits for you on the Friday. This is yet to be finalised. Please note, if you are going to arrive on the weekend you will have to fill in the application section of agent so that the person collecting permits can do so on your behalf

I also suggest that you photo copy your drivers Lic. however they may not accept this as proof of ID.

There is still a little to be sorted on this but we are making progress.
