Hello Paul,
I have mailed with the R.E.M.E museum and got from them an photocopie of the general lay-out of the Machinery/tools inside. The copie is an overhead view of the lay-out of the machinery/tools inside the lorry. But I didn,t asked Richard Farrant, that is also an member here at MLU? Thanks for the advice! Greetz! Jelle. Hi Jelle, I am not sure I can help you with Leyland Retriever workshop truck, but have just done some preservation work on a friend's Ford WOT6 Machinery truck as used by REME during the war, the body is very similar. After WW2 some of these bodies were transfered to Bedford QL chassis, the REME Museum has one on a QL. Attached is a recent photo of the WOT6. It would have been equipped with a lathe, generating set, bench drill, bench grinder and engine valve refacing machine. A large bench and drawers is fitted, plus stowage for oxy-acetylene cylinders for welding and heating. The Machinery trucks were kitted out to suit the maintenance role, be it armour, trucks, guns, etc. As with the Retriever, there is a small, narrow tailboard in the body with steps on it. Both sides of the body can be lowered to form benches. Hope this is of interest, anything else I can help you with, please ask.
