Les Foster,
The front floor of the bed was metal for a foot or so and behind that it was tongue and groove lumber. Under the lumber part is a simple framework made of 1" angle iron that you likely still have. There were metal strips screwed on over the joins in the sticks. This first pic gives the idea but it's the only one I took of the bed before removing it. The lights are the original items too.
If you'd like to correspond with other owners, I'm likely the only option in Canada, but you never know.
The second picture is the frame and chassis. This one had a Studebaker 6 with overdrive installed by a garage owner around 1960. I put mine on an S10 chassis for my daughter (she thinks it'll make a neat hot rod) since I didn't have near enough for a restoration. If you ever come across a hood for a 1948 to 1954 car or pickup let me know as mine is missing. If you need any parts I won't be using any of that chassis or the tail lights or dash or steering wheel. I also have a front bumper that could be restored and a set of hubcaps and wheels. I'm not using the tow hitch either but it wasn't factory installed on the phase 1s from what I've read. I think it would fit though. Send me a PM if you're interested or just to discuss stuff..
Dave

Default Thanks to "Cletrac"!

Cletrac: Thanks for your reply regarding Vanguard pickups. I tried to reply to my automatic notification last night but mistakenly sent it to mapleleaf.org! I'm new to this- how can I contact you personally as I'm definitely interested in your parts?? Thank you for the information on the box floor- wood will be much easier to replace. Your pickup is slightly newer- '54 maybe? Mine has more rounded rear fenders while your tail lights are mounted to flat rear corners on the box. It's great to find another owner out there! I look forward to emailing you directly as soon as I can figure out how to do it. -Les Foster

Les,

Click on his name on any post, then click on the Private Message strip - that will allow you to send him a private message ('PM') which will copy him in email for a heads-up and allow him to reply to you accordingly. It works quite well...

Cheers,

Geoff

Default Thanks Geoff

Geoff: Thanks for the assistance! I really appreciate it! Attached is a photo of my 1951 Ford of England, Thames E83W steel box pickup at a fly-in at Delta Heritage Air Park a couple of years ago. I have been helping the Cdn. War Museum a bit with the restoration of their WWII E83W canteen truck. My Vanguard pickup should allow me to attend more events when it is restored as the Thames is limited to 35 MPH so cannot go on any freeways! -Les Foster Delta, BC

Default Vanguard Pickup- reply to 'Cletrac'

Dave: Your Vanguard pickup is a "Phase 2" or Series 2 model. I have a Series 1 but there is not much difference- mainly the rear end styling of the box and the grill, cab corner windows, larger rear window, and other minor items. I was able to locate a former owner of mine who told me the pickup was an orchard truck around Summerland, B.C. It has had several owners since who've each done a bit of work on it. Hopefully, I'll be the one to finish its restoration! Please email me regarding those parts- I've sent you two emails recently- did you get them?? -Les Foster
