I realize I am beating this to death, but two more theories have come up from the web.
Firstly a couple of chaps have said the first truck has a body very similar to that supplied to ARAMCO and other oil extraction and exploration companies based all over the Middle East.
Thus it could be an impressed truck from that area. Makes some sense and I am trying to find some historical sources on that area/era.
Secondly, it has been suggested that the second truck bears a striking resemblance to the 1939 vintage Nissan 80 truck which is pictured rather badly in Bart's books. Thus if it were so, it must have been captured by the Russians at Kahlkin Gol in 1939.
Interesting I guess.
Cheers
Bill

Default Standing here with stick...

I'm not averse to beating topics with a stick either...

The first truck with a crew cab and full height sectional box body strongly suggests searchlight truck. A similar body is common on telephone service and utility vehicles but seldom with a crew cab.

Thanks for your support Gordon. My ancestors came from Scotland and we are indeed a determined lot. Good point about the utility/telephone trucks. They did do some over here prewar with crew cabs, not many. Today, they almost all have such cabs.
As stated earlier, I am going back into my civilian collection which is very poorly organized, and most likely will find some sort of answers there.
Cheers

Good point Tony:
However......
Look at the headlamp covers on your photo and compare them to the other truck. On yours, they are folded all the way back, on the other they appear to be at half mast.
I have never seen such a cover except on this truck so there may be more to the story.
Cheers

The headlight covers are typical of the Japanese Blackout lighting as depicted on this Kurogane 4x4 scout car captured singlehandedly by an Aussie in his underpants:

Hi Tony:
It would seem I missed your original point, that it is in fact a Nissan 80, correct??? That would make this photo a rare "beute" bird indeed.
Cheers
