Bugger, always wanted to see a flying Pig. Still a bit more of the pink paint and it will be getting close!
It really was quite a design change was'nt it, the FV1600 had more curves than the Michelin Man, the pig looks like a broken brick.
Lookin good.
Rich.

Waltz, do you have any pictures of the back wing boxes, my particular pig FV1611b (with winch) has bodged later N.I. style arches, rather than the full box version, which i would like to change, along with adding lockers to the front wings....

Does anyone know of a Mk1 for sale at the moment?

The prospective buyer would be happy with NI modifications but not up-armouring.

Uh-oh.... does the Scammell have a say, or are Richard and the Pig going to have to settle it between them? Is anyone giving odds here?

There are a couple of MK1's on the Scottish Military Vehicle Group:-

http://www.scottishmvg.org/11.html

Certainly there are alot less MK1's about, and the MK2 N.I. spec would take a huge amount of work to put back to MK1, they done alot of work to them.

There is usually another data plate under the passenger side window on the bulkhead, held on with 6 rivets although mine has gone walkabouts at some point.
I cant think of anywhere else it appears apart from the plates, do you still have the engine/number? i believe clive may have a list somewhere that might relate engine to chassis, although if it has been changed it isnt going to help. Did your old engine have a service record roll in the screw top tube thats bolted to the thermostat housing, that may provide a lead if it is still present.

Canadian UN troops, yes, you read it right! On Cyprus some pigs were also used by Danish and Canadian troops under the auspices of NATO.

I understand they were painted a sand colour (Light Stone?)

HTH,

Hanno,

I wonder if the photo caption was correct........there is the British Union flag draped over the engine covers might they actually be a British Army crew?

Hey Alex - I think you are mistaking Aussies for Kiwis.

Richard,

That is what I thought too, until I learned from Clive Elliott (also on this forum) over on HMVF the Danish and Canadian contingents used Humber Pigs during their UN tours on Cyprus, too.

The Life Magazine picture is part of a series of four pictures showing Canadian UN troops in Cyprus in 1964. However, this does not mean the caption is 100% correct. I think the presence of a British Union flag on the vehicle makes it highly unlikely the depicted troops are Canadian. Unless they were working in joint units?

Hanno
