Nothing a good body man couldn't fix up in a few hours...as our friend Angus is known to say.

Hi Scott
Now that is quite the video. Does any body know the vehicle count and the distanced traveled? This one is definitely going in the next issue of our Clubs Newsletter. Cheers Phil

Interesting programs, I watched the first two (so far) and enjoyed them apart from the way they vision and sound are constantly hyped. There is, at least in the Sherman one a huge amount of footage that is just padding and can easily be skimmed past to get to the interesting bits. The other thing which was a little disappointing was you don't see the completion of either project. I'd be interested to hear what others think. These programs would have had huge production budgets.
One thing I found very interesting was the different approach between the US and British restorers, I thought Dave was fantastic with his comment about "You pain in the arse camera people".

Hi Scott
Good find. Above average quality video and commentary on the first half, with the second half being an interesting mix of vintage footage and modern reenactment footage to tell the story of missions. Worth the watch. Cheers Phil

Hi Scott
I enjoy these old news films, one aspect of them that I really get a kick out of the differences in style from company to company and from nation and nation. Did anybody spot anything funny about the Lightening that was shown in one segment? Cheers Phil

Phil, do you mean the one flying with the nose gear extended and the main gear retracted?
Looks like somebody forgot to remove the ground pin ![]() David

Hi Dave
I wonder what might have caused that, as news film is often assembled from unrelated segments of film we will never know if this actually happened on a mission and if the pilot had to return to base. Wonder how much that impacted the speed of the P-38 and what did it do to the flying characteristics. Cheers Phil

Hi Phil
I had another look at the video and in the momentary side view of the P38 the nose gear is not fully extended which would be the case if the ground pin was still in place but is laying at an angle to the rear, partially retracted. That would seem to indicate there was a malfunction in the retract mechanism. Not being familiar with P38s or their landing gear I wouldn't hazard a guess at what the problem might be. Presumably the film was taken from a chase plane that has come up to take a look but if the guy was trying to extend the landing gear why is the main gear still stowed? It's a much bigger problem if the landing gear won't extend than if it won't retract so you would really want to know that it was going to work. It is an odd situation. David

Hi All
In a little bit of cross pollination from another forum, this one just got posted on the antique Lincoln Forum site, I can remember if it has been posted on MLU but it is kind of interesting, definitly pitched at a younger age group. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nz0ZQpBgeFs Cheers Phil

Was looking through the vidios listed on the Hagerty Insurance Web Site and found this this one on the Long Range Desert Group vehicles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yxnyvcfiho They got over 400 videos, many look to have been professionally done, haven't found and more Military Vehicle ones yet. But fun viewing. http://www.youtube.com/user/HagertyKnowsClassics/videos Cheers Phil

Hi Guys
Yes, the guy who posted that video has also posted a number of other videos of the Weare Summer Rally. Couple of years ago he came to the Rally with his Ural motorcycle and got hooked on MVs, now he has got and M35. As to the Bear guess I'll have to post the video of the bear waving in parades, a real crowd pleaser. But here is another video by the same guy- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWkK_r7AsK8 you can watch the whole thing or jump in to the 3:08 minute point my HUB running through a shallow puddle then watch. Don't quite get the sound track. Cheers Phil

Phil,
The HUP certainly is the "odd-duck" among that crowd. I'll bet it gets its fair share of attention. Cheers!

The ladies seemed quite interested in the carrier. I congratulate Stu for keeping his eyes level with their eyes. That takes discipline!

He is disciplined. I think it took about 20 trys though for the girls to get their lines right.

Hi Scott
Nice video good combination of still photos and video to tell the story of an event. Always interesting to see and hear the vehicles on the move. Dose seem to be short on CMPs though, some CMPers will have to infiltrate. Cheers Phil

Hi Scott
Enjoyed the videos of ANZAC Day March 2013 Mt. Gambier SA Au by Spinafex http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcCgmCDvXFY. Wonderful to see the turn out and the appreciation of the crowds. The poor guy at the beginning of the parade in the restored Ferret having engine problems, hope he made it all the way. Probably had been beating feet to get to the parade on time shut down hot and bit of flooding. Here in the states we are just coming to our big parade time at the end of May with Memorial Day Parades and stale gas is generally the problem for the first parade. Keep the videos coming. Cheers Phil

is this interesting video of machining a flathead V8 block including sleeving and cutting a 'power slot'.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jzb9RMkFeM4 He has some more which are worth a look such as cutting new valve seats. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDEJ3coQa14
