Default Regulator Restoration

Hi anyone outhere had experiance with restoring the US style 6 volt regulator used on jeeps and dodges. Mine has a lot of corrosion on joining bars at the back of the coil mounting board. I have cleaned with the wire wheel but note that several conections are preasure contact only to lugs mounted on the base board. My concern is that I am spending time cleaning for no result as I can see that I will end up with high resistance joints unless I solder things up, has anyone tried this?

Has anyone removed the carbon link bars and soldered in copper joints? these carbon bars have an internal resistance of .6 ohm why not 0 ohm?

Has anyone simple removed the inards and replaced with a smaller modern unit mounted on the base board and coneccted to the original fields battery lugs?
