I have borrowed this seat cushion and was wondering if anyone can shed any light on the correct position it should be in the carrier, I think its from a Mk2 carrier, I also have a wooden base that i think is also carrier, its the wrong size to fit on a Mk1 carrier fuel tank rails.
can anyone help?.

Hi Kevin,
I just measured the width between my rails for the wireless operators seat in the back of my Mk 1 and it measures approximately 13 inches across. If the canvas is dated 1945,would it not be for a Mk 2 or a Windsor? Regards,Derk.

Hi Kevin,
The prefix on the part number for that seat cushion is unfamiliar to me but i believe it may be for a Windsor carrier. Having a look in the FUC-03 parts book the prefixes for UC "Cushion assembly - kneeling pad and rear seat" are TL, CTL and C01UC. However, that cushion appears very similar to the correct one for a UC. That board looks to me to be a "CTL 14079 Board - gunner's backrest" for the Mk II* I will post photos of the cushion that I have to compare them. Cheers, Colin |

Here are the photos of the seat cushion, and it sitting in place in the rear of a Mk 1* carrier. The date on the cushion looks like it might be 1948 in the picture but it is definitely 1943. The dimensions of the cushion are approx 12" x 13".
It appears to be very similar to the cushion in the above photos less the extra fixing straps. This may not be the only type of cushion that is correct for a UC but it is the only type that I am aware of (I am not an expert). |

Hi Colin, Many thanks for the info, I notice in your picture you have the wooden board arrangement over the fuel tank, although not correct for the tank hunter, I need to replicate this for the mortar carrier, Any chance of some dimensions and construction details if it is original?.
Thanks kevin.

Hi Kevin,
I am fairly sure that the wooden board arrangement that I have is not original. I can take some measurements and pictures if you would like (not tonight though as I have to go back in to work). |

Hi, Colin some pictures and measurements would be great, I think Jordan Baker has made a wooden cover but had I think to guess how it would locate on the two cutouts on the angle iron rails.
Thanks kevin.

About 25 years ago I was at a surplus dealers place in Ely, buying parts for my Bedford QL, he had scores of these cushions in an old van body, all NOS and with TL parts label on, recall the date you mentioned to. I was going to use them in the lorry but they were too damned hard, they were complete with multi layers of hard felt. Saw some at Beltring this year. Could not give them away in those days! Richard
