Can anyone tell me if we used as the primary ambulance either the C8A HUA or the American WC-54 in Feild Ambulance units in Italy/NWE?

As far as I know, the Canadans did not use the WC-54. I am sure they did not in NWE; Italian theatre is very unlikely.

The C8A HUA was definitely used, though I do not know the TOE for the RCAMC.

Definitely not the US WC-54. You will find that the 3-ton Ambulance (CMP) and the Jeep (Car, 4x4, 5cwt) were the primary ambulances although, in the Italian theatre, you can expect to see a number of British vehicles in the role.

Don't be misled into thinking the C8A is based on the 15cwt. They share the same wheelbase, but mechanicals and chassis are very different.

Hi John;

A Light Field or Field Ambulance, RCAMC was equipped with 5-cwt, 4x4, 2-berth and 3-Ton, 4x4, 4-berth ambulances. In addition, when operating an open Advanced Dressing Station (ADS), a section of six 3-Ton, 4x4, 4-berth ambulances from the Motor Ambulance Convoy was allotted to the Headquarters Company of the Light Field or Field Ambulance to aid in the evacuation of casualties from the ADS.
