Gents, hi...
Iīm collecting material for the construction of model kit of this truck: Bedford QLC 6 toner ![]() I have doubts about the system of the trailer hitch in the truck (see arrow)... ![]() I know that: " A rather different variation of the theme was provided by the Bedford QLC 4 x 4 - 2 General Service Lorry. This consisted of a standard QL four-wheel drive chassis to which was permanently coupled a GS semi-trailer with tilt cover. The Ball-type coupling beiong directly over teh QL rear axel. A small cargo body of 1 ton capacity was fitted" . The 1 ton cargo body was a drop side and the fitting a ball type coupling. source: British Military Transport WW2 - Ryton Publications Please, someone had a picture or drawing of details of this system... Thanks in advance.... ![]()

Hi
Picture looked familiar grabbed one of Bart Vanderveen's books off the shelf entitled Bedfords & Vauxhall Military Vehicles. It has several other pictures of other tractor trailers units with similar arrangement. I'll have to read through all the related text to see if it gives and explanation. Memory tells me that Bart wrote and article about this I believe in Wheels and Tracks. Anybody got the cumulative index for Wheels and Tracks? Cheers Phil

Hi,
I think some of the wartime Bedfords were fitted with the Scammell coupling, the civilian models where, I have an Article and pictures in a Classic Military Vehicles magazine, I will dig it out later and if there is more information will post it on. Cheers |

Sorry, its not a Scammell, its a Tasker of Andover 6-8 Ton Ball coupling, about 7000 were built, there is an article in the June 2002 Classic Military Vehicle magazine, the pic you used above with the clock tower in the background is the 1st page of that Article, also includes the specs etc.Do you already have the magazine ? If not let me know and I can scan/email it to you although there is no clear large image of the coupling.
Interestingly the Trailer is permanently connected to the coupling and with limited travel of 20 degrees ended up rolling when not on tarmac and a lot where scrapped. Hopefully I have successfully attached an image of one from Google Images, however if it does'nt then search Google Images for Tasker coupling, or bedford coupling, hope helps ! ![]() |
