Hi Guys,
My name is Bob McWilliam. I'm new to the forum, and my computer skills are limited, but I have started the restoration of my 1940 C1500 and in need of some advise to find some parts I require. Where can I find parts like a rad cap and the part that the cap attached to on the rad? My original rad where the cap screws on is rusted out. Inst panel glass? Its a long list I'm afraid, Some photos attached. Any help on sourcing parts would be fantastic. |

Hi Bob
Welcome to MLU, you're not tapped in to the most comprehensive body of experienced CMP enthusiasts in the world. Alec is of course correct, it's a C15 (without the '00') and if it's 1940 chances are it has the cab 11 front sheet metal. Do you have a picture of it intact? I have a spare original MB-C1 workshop manual although postage would I think be a bit dear from this part of the globe. We look forward to following your progress, and doubtless many others will post here to tell you where to find parts and how to make your vehicle as authentic as you want it to be. thanks for the reply. I have the MB_C2 & C15-02 parts manual plus an original MB-C1 mtnce manual.brad mills is a friend of mine and is very helpfull . his feelings might be hurt by saying he is a nissan dealer. he s realy a mazda dealer. I will contact brian asbury to see what he might have. bob. |

There are other CMP owners handy Truro and in Halifax..and Maces Bay New Brunswick...and the master of CMP lives in Burton NB..Just up the street a bit from you..Name is Bill Mulholland..know-er of all things CMP..Ex army wrench..worked on them for 75 years..to hear him tell you stories..and may have lots of parts or know where you can get some..Then there are the Barn boys that run between Eastern Ontario and the Maritime s ..Robs got relatives in the Vally and the are always on raiding parties to the maritime s.. But You may have to make a trip up to Eastern Ontario this summer to Bobs BBQ..A massive gather up of CMP people who camp out at Bobs 50 acre camp spot..usually June..but will have to Confirm with Bob for this years gather up.. Stay in touch.

Welcome to the crazy world of CMPs and the even nuttier world of cab 11... Curious..... there was a previous posting a few years back of someone on the East coast who purchased a alledgedly complete truck similar to yours all disassembled.... sort of a Leggo project..... was that you or the origine of your truck....? I have tinkered a bit with a cab 11 and may have a few spare parts or at least ideas to share. Don't be afraid to ask questions and include as many pictures as possible as some of us can't read real good !!!!! ...one of the many other Bob.

See the attached pic..... On the cab 11 the special ..odd.... 90 degree goose neck is lead soldered onto the radiator tank...... never seen a loose one as a NOS one...... Biran Ashbury has the NOS radiator cap with chain. You mayhave to buy a whole radiator to get that part. In most instances we wind up buying a delapidated radiator just to save the top and bottom tank.... and pay around $400 to have it recored with four rows of tubes. It is usually easier to find a cab 13 rad (which won't fit )than a cab 11/12.... but don't give up yet....... not usre what I have at the barn....will need to look around..... and there may be some others on the forum with a rusted out rad that is willing to remove the neck for you. HAng in there.. Bob ....ahum..... I think I have one from Mike's truck...... I know I have one with a piece of PCB pipe adaptation....will need to check what over all shape it is in..... stay tuned.

Now I realize I had all these photos copied on my data bank.... Just bad CRAFT.....Can't rmember a Freaking thing.... Now to Bob... How bad or how good is your overall rad......? How did the neck come loose...... is the core actually worth saving......?? Would hate to see you get a neck and cap and find out your bottom tank is corroded out and the core shot.... Overall how are you making out on the re-assembly.....? We would all see some updated pics if available. Will look in the storage shed this weekend to see what I have. Bob C.

On the instrument panel glass....... if you are planning to refurbish your cluster there are USA sites that would have new glass and ALL the decals for the guages...... Gord Yeo is working a C8 and did order the parts from the states....... .....Gord....???? are you hibernating or out playing with the BMP-1 Bob C

rad seems to be good no leaks small repair in bottom corner of core. no reassembly started yet.still taking things apart as time permits.working on small bits in my basement. will post pics as soon as I learn how.

dug out the doors for the c15 today and after a little circa 1850 i found a Z over73.995.I guess this is the WD # . Would anyone know how I could find out where this truck was used or what unit it was assigned to?

That is the later version of the DND numbering system. Actually, it seems to be a mix of the later and the earlier version.
Early numbers would be the Z over a number format such as 41-1-234. The 41 would be the year the number was given to the vehicle,they all have a one after that, and the 234 would have been a sequential number assigned. I owned a 1940 once, and it had a 41 in it's prefix. A check with the war diaries of the unit it belonged to showed several other DND numbers in the same range applied to other vehicles in the unit, from staff cars to tractors. Later they went to the numbering system like you have shown: usually two digits followed by three digits. I have not seen a rationale as to this numbering format. To find some unit history on the truck you would need to find other markings on the vehicle. Often, over top of the Z would have been another unit marking, such as A4RCATC. That would be the unit. Later, they went to the coloured markings with numbers in them...these were usually on the front cowl and the tailgate. Last edited by rob love; 06-02-12 at 00:49. |

Yes, that is the early number, and confirms the truck was in service in 1940.
