![]() Further thoughts: It's for the Wireless Set No.62 - the two elongated slots are for the rubber-bodied two pin power connectors (good luck finding any of those), and it has two sockets so that you can connect a charging set without having to disconnect the wireless set (although I assume the set would be switched off while the battery is being charged). Charging sets would be either the 80 watt petrol generator or the 60-watt pedal-driven unit. There's a backpack for this or the 22AH battery: Carriers, Battery, No.7 or 7T for the tropicalised version (I think). Pity it's missing the connectors and wiring, though those would have to come off in order to remove the cells when it was scrapped. There was a later pressed-steel cased version of this battery (of course). Chris. Last edited by Chris Suslowicz; 07-03-17 at 23:47. Reason: Further thoughts... |

I had or may still have quite a few of those rubber power connectors . I used to buy the 62 set signals satchels for 2 bucks at ham radio supplies . The power lead was usually in the satchel along with the mic/headphones and other bits. The army reserves here were using 62 sets as late as early 1960's, and sometimes they were causing interference problems on the public AM broadcast band , the 62 set is capable of tuning onto one end of the band !

I have power leads, also the pedal-driven generator and its pouch[1] of accessories.
The problem is getting (or making) the fixed sockets for the battery box. Chris. [1] Satchel, Signals, No.7 (A small, square one that holds the various cables and tools. It has a couple of straps for attaching it to the generator seat frame.) |
