The few CMP's there are a source of parts, but nothing spectacular. The bigger damage will be to antique car buffs because there are thousands of cars dating from the 20's to the 60's.
BUT.... SOMEBODY MUST GO, FIND AND RECOVER THE REMAINS OF THE PRE-WAR CANADIAN ARMOURED CAR!!!! Please, if interested discuss and I will do my best to assist. |

Bruce and Brad,
Are they having a sale and want traffic, or is this just for the scrap dealers? Do the owners want folks showing up with cash in hand and pickups? Is it worth taking a day off and scooting up there? Bruce - what does this armoured car weigh? Stewart |

There are two armoured pieces, roughly 3' by 3' by 5' (an engine cowl and a part of the 'fighting compartment'. Whether the chassis is there and identifiable is another question.

Nobody has been able to identify these for over twenty years (but that was before anybody here knew the 1935 experimntal armoured cars existed). A comparison now would confirm this or not. If not, then what are they? The colour is clearly 'army green', the welds stainless and the armour no more than 1/4".
Hanno, who's your 'spy' here in Canada that took these pictures? |

They look like the ones that I took last fall at a friend's request. If I can find the other detailed ones I took I will post them. I visited the yard and yes it will be a great loss for the antique car buff... any way I had a lot of fun searching up and down the trails and it was certainly hard to keep focus on the job at hand with all of the other distractions there.

The Minaker's yard came up in the thread Canadian Experimental Armoured cars - 1935, but Roger Lucy and Clive Law were not able to locate the parts when they were there in May/June 2005. Maybe they could have a close look at these pictures and try to identify what's there? Craig, If you have more detailed pics that would most certainly help. Quote:

I have attached a map photo of the yard ( hopefully). I found the hulk in the bottom left corner (area indicated in the box) and took some photos. I believe that the remainder of the photos are at work and I will post them this week when I get back from holidays.

Minakers Auto's. Now i dont know how long this has been going on or any more details about it (price etc), but through around about circle i found out about it. Dont now even if you know about it already- i havent seen it mentioned though.
There area fare few CMP's- early ones in there such as the one below (second link), as well as the odd other thing of interest to some. Scroll through the picture pages to find more stuff! http://groups.msn.com/minakersautopa...ox.msnw?Page=2 http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0TgANA...38402504667209 Alot look reasonable, some probably great for parts, but most seem like a decent resto candidate- well hey, i`m sure worse have been saved! Story i was told is that they are to be crushed (everything in the yard), but in an email i recieved yesterday, alot of it is still there. Good luck and i hope someone can make something out of it all! Ian.

Good day Ian! If you check back in the Jan for sale or trade, a post came up "CMP sale in Ontario" or words to that effect. It was about this very yard. They had advertised last summer that they intended to get rid of some stuff. There were a few including my self that visited the yard. I attached an air photo of the yard in that post just to give you an idea of the size.

Thanks Craig,
Shows how much i follow the forums... or maybe it shows even better how well my memory works- probably the later! So was anyone able to get any useful stuff out of there, or was it all over priced or so on? Cheers, Ian.

I haven't heard anything after it passed by my place a half dozen years ago on it's way to the United States. When I first saw this at the Minaker's yard more than 30 years ago they kept calling it an Otter. Clearly it wasn't but now I see why they might have. It's a British LRC of roughly the same class and purpose as an Otter. My theory is this one made it to Canada for training or possibly was even the pattern the Canadian Otter was based on. To a postwar wrecker the distinction was probably irrelevant, hence to them it was an 'Otter'.
