OMVA Show
David,
I might not be able to attend the OMVA show on 30May09, but we can work out getting it to me through somebody that is. I went to Canadian Tire and got a big plastic tub to put the tarps in - to keep the mice and moths from snacking on them. Stewart |

"to keep the mice and moths from snacking on them."..What do you put on them to keep YOU from snacking on them..?? I haven't seen you for a while so you'll have to bring Machine Gun Mary and make a trip up this summer.. For all I know you could have wasted away to 300 pounds...and you need some of Bob's steaks to get you back to your fighting weight... Fat Al...

Tarp Pick Up
Quote:
David, I shall be driving from Ottawa to London on Sunday May 3, 2009. I can pick up the 8cwt tarp if you want - and will take it to Tillsonburg to get a price on having it copied. Otherwise, I know a fellow whose son is at the military college - and we can arrange something later. Stewart |

I've found a cover in NZ to copy.
I have borrowed an original cover, with the C^ stencilled on the back cover, so it is most likely from a C15A from mid to late war, but it fits the C8AX canopy frame like a glove!
It is in fairly good shape, but has lost the front window, and has torn material in the left side window. They have what looks like a light weight canvas material, but have possibly been painted over with a dark stain or paint as they are quite stiff compared with the canvas of the cover. The front opening/window lines up exactly with the cab rear window opening for height, but is slightly narrower. Questions: 1. What did you decide the original windows were made of? 2. Did the front window have a flap or similar to allow communication with the cab occupants? 3. How were they tied on? The ropes on the side of this one are over 7 feet long, the front about 6 foot, and the back quite a lot shorter. 4. What do the rear flap clips look like? I will get a couple made locally for my brother's truck and mine. Incidentally there are a lot of similarities to the C8AX ambulance canopy, which again I was fortunate to find an original to measure and copy. I have been following this thread with interest for some time, but haven't seen the answers to these questions above. Hope you can help Stewart Rob |

Here's afront quarter view.
Note how well the curved steel canopy frame matches the curve of the canvas.
The rope tie hooks on the C8AX deck don't match too well, too high compared with a C15A deck, so there is excess rope. Rob |

(Most) Tarps are Done!
Gents,
I have just returned from the canvas shoppe, with all of the olive canvas tarps, and both Carrier covers. They look (and smell) just like the sample Jon provided for us. Some supplier problems will slow down the final tan canvas parts, probably be 2 weeks or so. Those who have not paid me yet need to figure out how they want their covers shipped, and a payment method. Stewart |

Nope.
Boob,
We will have to see who else from here is going there - as the 30th is Gun Clun spring cleaning day. We are getting the ranges insopected in June and we have plenty of work to do. There will be a ham lunch and cupcakes for all who come out and help - but I won't be able to see you, or that delightful Peter Simundson, at the OMVA event. Who will be going thru B'Ville towards Oshawa and would take a tarp (and another surprise) to Bob? Stewart |

Bob, I have found a way ...
... if you are going to the Oshawa show 30May, there has been an offer to take your tarp there for you.
If you are going to the OMVA show, let me know soon, so I can organize the transport. Or, please keep an eye out for a carb and waterpump for a 1923 Cadillac Series 63 at Barrie. Stewart |

I shall arrange to have your cover taken to the show in Oshawa. I think that I am OK for the carb, and when I get a snap of the water pump it will be too late ... Stewart |

UpDate 25May09
Gents,
Albert Baines got his 15cwt cover last week and he reports tha the tarp fits well and looks good. Albert is a stickler, and I was happy to hear his favourable review of this part. I was in at the canvas place last Friday ( to drop off an 8cwt cover ) and I am told that the tan material will get worked in the very near future. When I get them the word will go out. One to Windsor, and one to Johnnie in MD. I hear that a tarp is even on the way to Bob in NB. Stewart |

No Tanning in B'Ville
Jordan,
I will be happy to shut off the lawn mower and visit with you for a moment when you come to the farm to collect your CMP truck and Carrier stuff. The tan parts will be a bit longer - as Mike is waiting for them. I am still working out my travel to Maryland to deliver the other, so a little extra time is OK with me. When these are done I will shout out to Adam also - and thank him for lending us these vital parts to copy. I hope to get the 1/2" hemp rope soon - so Charlie can teach me splice it to the tarp. Try to imagine a monkey tying his shoelaces - you get the picture! Stewart |

Tan Cover Pix
Yes,
We were out for a drive today, and stopped into Windsor and met up with Mike and Geoff. Here is one of the snaps that I snapped - please note that these 2 fellows are normal size: the C60-HUP is the abnormally large green one on the right. It looks like the tan cover fits. I hope to get the other tan one to Johnnie in MD when I return Sunday 12July. Stewart |
