Australian, GB and US weapons in the Netherlands East Indies Army
Dear contributors to MLU!
I am trying to identify a number of arms sold to the KNIL from Australia, GB and USA or used by Allied troops in NEI. My source is a translated Japanese document stating how many weapons that were captured on Java. In some cases I think I know what type the Jaspanese are referring to, but in some cases I cannot identify the type. The number captured is shown within brackets. 7,62 mm Mauser pistols (600) 7,62 mm Colt pistols (600) 11,43 mm Colt revolvers (1.000) - note not pistols 11,43 mm Aster pistols (723) 11,43 mm SMG Thompson (723) Type? 11,43 mm SMG USA Harrington-Richardsson (31) 7,62 mm Lee-Enfield type Remington rifles (11.066) 7,62 mm Johnson rifles (4.885) 7,62 mm Johnson automatic rifles 1941-type (614) 7,7 mm LMG Bren (325) - seems to be Australian ?? mm LMG Lewis-type Hembrug (69) - bought from NL or US? 7,62 mm HMG Hotchkiss USA (300 brand new) 7,7 mm HMG Vickers made in Australia (126) 7,62 mm HMG Colt (536) 8 mm HMG Fiat (20) - these I know was bought from GB. Captured from Italians in the Mid East. 180 were bought. From GB also 1.000 ex-Italian rifles were bought. Model and calibre? I am greatful for all help received. Stellan Bojerud

Lost Battalion
The "Lost Battalion" 2nd Bn 131st US Field Arty (Texas NG) was lost not only on Java in 1942 but also by the Hackers assault on MLU some days ago.
So all the valuable information I got was lost too. So what guns did the 2/131st US Field Arty have? This type? 75 mm M97A4

this one?
this might answer your question: a ex-US 75mm gun in front of the Dutch Marines artillery's Darmo barracks in Surabaya, late 40's (from: De mariniersbrigade te kiek).
It might still be there somewhere... Nuyt |

US Artillery in NEI
Hello,
Right You are! The post WW 2 KNIL had 25-pdrs and obviously also the Marines. That leves us with this 75 mm US gun outside Darmo Bks in Soerabaja = one of the ones left by E-Bty 2/131 Us Fd Arty. Thank You! As a reward: Have a 25-pdr! Stellan
