Default Announcement - "Weapons of War" series

This informative series of booklets was first launched in 2002 with Paul Roberts' "The Ram in Canadian Service". I am pleased to say that, in 2013, I will be publishing the 40th title in this highly acclaimed series of books on Canadian vehicles and artillery.

As a mile-stone publication I felt that the 40th book should be something special, something that reflects an activity undertaken by ALL Canadian soldiers, in ALL campaigns.

Thanks to MLU-er Don Dingwall, I believe that I have found the perfect subject. Look for this at select militaria and hobby shops near you.

Clive

Clive,

Congrats on getting to the 40th title in the series.

As far as the subject for the book, well, all I can hope is that Don got the paperwork right!

Classic off beat Canadian humour.

Default Crapper tales

In Mar 91, I went north from Bahrain to Kuwait City with an ad hoc Canadian EOD engineer troop. We lived at Camp Freedom (!) which was a Kuwait Ministry of Education warehouse south of the city opposite the international airport. The camp was run by US Army reservists, and had a large reserve medical unit. Because the US Army likes to be mobile, the shitters were plywood affairs with cut down oil barrels that were emptied from the back. The challenge is to find one that is piled just high enough to not splash diesel fuel on one's backside while still have, so to speak, freeboard below the seat.

The alternative was much better, but required some improvisation. Like every Middle Eastern "facility" I saw, the as built norm was a bomb sight shitter. Some resourceful soul brought a proper toilet seat from stateside, and mounted it on a plastic milk crate. A bit low, but more relaxing for a person to achieve success for their constitutional.

So there I was seeing a young American female soldier with her old school M16 and a roll of toilet paper. "Where can I find the latrines?" pause "Would you like a real porcelain shit? "Oh yes!" I stood guard out the bathroom door while a grateful soul enjoyed our hospitality.

Apart from the chuckle upon seeing this "cover", I scrolled down and then saw the notation about the M100 trailer.

The chuckle became a belly laugh!

Jon,

We aim to please (which also happens to be the title of a section in the book).

I like the toilet seat you can buy that fits the receiver hitch on your pickup. When you're done you drive away and leave everything behind. It's probably not politically correct, but so what?
Here's a pic of one with a catch can.
