2pdr
So I just acquired a live registered 2pdr. Australian, brought to the U.S. by a military officer.
Has a box of unknown parts, with the FL number and the broad arrows, one with a letter C and the other maybe an anchor? Are manuals or parts lists available? Specifically, the deflection sight shown in the pic. would fit but for the knob on the right hand end of the horizontal screw interfering with the sight base casting for the telescope. Maybe for the British version? TIA Barry |

Barry I have a manual for the British 2 pdr, but no parts list. I've scanned this page and your deflection gear could well be British. I don't have enough information to compare the Brit-Oz-Canadian guns.
My gun is missing that part and if you find that it is British, maybe you'll consider me if you want to move it on Ron |

Found a manual, but no luck yet on a numbered parts list. Will have to see what, if anything, turns up on the sight. All of the few pics I've seen on the web are either of a view not showing the sight, or are too faint, or, in most cases, it is missing. Could easily make it fit, just hate to if the correct one is somehow radically different. But if it becomes available, you asked first! If there were a demand, it is reproducible, being much less complicated than the Krupp 50mm Mountain Gun whose sight I really want to reproduce, but would need orders for at least 10, and would not be real cheap. Ron, and all:
Well, I've found no additional info on this sight. I rather suspect that this one is incompletely assembled, in that the large headed screw was probably supposed to thread further into the left-hand end, (to which the hand wheel is attached), and thus the screw head would act as the outboard bearing. Careful torque indicates that the screw is not going to release. Thus the only option appears to be to cut off the screw head and then thread it back on to the appropriately shortened screw. Unless someone has more info, or a better idea, guess that will happen in due course. Barry |

Looks like the one in the drawing to me. Are the pims in the bottom visible?
And for dis-assembly, things like that can be boiled in oil... (anything but cutting)

Sorry I'm not understanding what you mean by "underside of the brass near the knurled wheel" etc.
Do you mean the underside of the sight, or something else? Because there are no pins in/on the sight save for a small one holding the knurled wheel to the threaded shaft, and which is some distance from the point where I believe things may not have been fully assembled. I'm unable to successfully load pics. Will get my son to figure it out again today or tomorrow. Barry |

Ron and Charlie:
Ron's pic shows the same configuration on the mount as mine. The two holes are actually threaded for the screws to attach the T shaped square-stock piece which holds the sight in the slot. Will try to get pics posted shortly. Happy New Year! Barry |

Reasonably certain it is on my end, but I simply cannot get pictures to load to this forum with any regularity. In spite of many attempts.
In the event, I finally bit the bullet and cut the horizontial screw where it meets the part at the left end, as shown in the previously posted pics. Then bored that part and rethreaded it. Turns out the thread is 1/4-28, which is the US National Fine series. Then found that the head on the right end was slightly too large to fit within the lips of the main body when screwed into the new thread. Also when I chucked it in the lathe the head was not truly round on the major diameter. Easily turned to fit in only about four steps. All of which leads me to believe the headed screw was a replacement which was meant to be carefully hand fitted, but was not. Reminded me of my first experience with hand fitting factory parts, that being the rather large center section of the bonnet of a '67 XK-E. Really loved that vehicle... Thanks to all, Barry |
