The red X is for THREADJACKER2000(tm), and now someone's gone and pushed it!

C8AX -199 is an NZ delivered cab-chassis C8AX with a repro built HUP body. Built from plans drawn from photos, and utilising C8AX components where possible (eg, the rear corners of the cab roof now form the rear body corners), it's an impresive job. With a little coaxing, we may see the owner on here to tell more of the story.

The rear and side doors were made by a sheetmetal worker who produced the dies to stamp out the door inners!

Rear door:

All in all, a nice unit that, with a soon-to-be-done freshen up, makes a very comfortable family tourer for MV events!

My Uncle Ray Hardgrave Built your hup at his workshop in hamilton for Don Walker. I went for a ride in it when I was a little Kid when it was a cab and GS Tray.

That's an interesting C8AX! The front axle and the chassis rails are the heavier version found on either a C15A or CGT Portee (the 20" wheels tend towards it being a Portee), and the front bumper has the vertical tow rings, unlike the horizontal type found on a C8AX. I wonder if someone has used the cab13 from a C8AX to "update" a poor condition Portee? Is the transfer case a single speed, or a two speed? Single would indicate a C15A chassis, while a two speed would be from a Portee.
It's still good, though, to be able to record the C8AX data plate.

Tony,
I don't know much about the details of these things. The data plate is on the dashboard unit which is detached from the cab frame and lying on the chassis. It may not be from the same vehicle as I assumed.

Default C8AX s/n XH8448-259

Cross reference from Heads Up: C8AX in New Zealand:

Serial number reads as XH8448-259. Seems we haven't seen this one on here before.
