Plus of course there were Guys in the mix as well, presumably brought back by various other 6th and 7th Div arty units. Here's another example of the Nov '42 camo scheme seen on the F15A, with Dark Green very obvious on the front wheel. Not sure there's much point trying to push one of these through sand!

Interestingly, hardly any on the vehicles in this thread show much use of Micky Mouse Camo, that was supposed to be in use 1942-44. I guess that by the time the Allies got to Belgium and Holland an all over colour was adopted.

Here you go Larry:

Two Ford F15A 4x4 15-cwt trucks, one Ford staff car and two CMP 3-ton trucks by the railway overpass at the Ringbaan-Oost - Bosscheweg intersection at Tilburg, 10-1944. They are on their way to the battles along the Wilheminakanaal.

No noticeable camouflage that I can see.

Those chunky tyres made me think for a second these F15As were F22s......

Is that front diff painted white? I thought they generally only did the rear one.

Front diff can be painted white again , My F15A had rear diff painted white with black number on , and front axle had a white bar painted on it .

Thanks Maurice, I didn't know that about the front diff. I wonder: what did they do with the 4x2 trucks? A white band on the beam axle maybe?

This is only speculation but I think it is possible that there was a general instruction to paint white patches on diffs (meaning REAR diffs) but that some squaddies, having been programmed to do what they were told and not to think too much, got carried away and painted them on front diffs as well.
Certainly you never see convoy lights to illuminate the front diff.

I think white front diffs is not correct practice although certainly was sometimes done.

With the risk of getting crucified....I am attaching a picture of a Chevrolet C60L in this Ford thread.....but, I hope I can get away with it.

It clearly shows a white painted front diff cover. My thought was that during a service, the front and back diff covers might have been accidentally switched....but that theory won't fly on a Ford axle!! And to be honest I hadn't noticed the white painted front diff on the F15A picture I posted earlier.

More interestingly, the two on the left have had their cab roofs removed. Had not seen that before in the NW European theatre of operations.

Hanno, the pic was taken quite close to your home...in front of the policestation at the Tiberiusplein in IJmuiden. I had this picture (pretty sure it's from beeldbankwo2) lined up for a then and now picture, but I didn't have the time yet. It's still the Police Station today!

An interesting picture nonetheless....also note the bullit holes in the door of the frontmost F15A. It seems the roof and doors of the mid one were removed a long time ago, as the star was relocated to the engine lid.....and the census number to the side of the body!

I also have a picture of a topless C15A in either Tan or very faded SCC2, but I am too scared to post it in this Ford thread.

Also no Census number on the door.....even though I think the official instruction was to paint the census number on the drivers side and rear of vehicles(?).

The marking on the door would make it a troop leader of an Artillery unit.
