M37CDN /M43CDN engine
Is this a correct replacement motor for a M43CDN? It has all the original military part on the engine.

The correct engine is a T-249. But it’s not uncommon to find other engines in them. Two of mine had Plymouth blocks, I guess any engines in the system got sent for rebuild and came back as M37 engines? Rob Love will probably know more, but I know a few people have different engine blocks.

Just looked it up, that engine is a 230 used in Dodge cars 1946-48. It should have the long block 251. The CDN trucks do have the ability to take both sizes of engine, the 251 mounts directly on top of the front crossmember. The 230 sits on brackets attached to the crossmember.

Agreed, the block is likely from a sedan. Seems to me the model of the engine is the first 3 digits before the serial of the engine, so a Canadian engine should have the T249 in that location.
I put a 265 into a M37 many many years back. The engine was salvaged form an old GPU, and had been a training aid for some time. When it was about toget the heave ho into the scrap bin, I grabbed it and installed it into the M37. It was a fairly direct fit, although if memory serves there may have been a threaded hole or two on the M37 engine that was not on the larger motor. All of the Chrysler/Dodge flatheads could be interchanged with a few minor changes or parts. Ont thing to watch of ris that the oil pump and distibutor match. Some are offset and some are center on the little flat that fits between the two. |

M37CDN /M43CDN engine
It's the longer engine, using the front motor mounts, that are on the front cross member. Thanks for the info.
