after high school i went up to fort mcmurray to start my apprenticeship i was introduced to buckleys there with the advice that it tastes like shit but works. it does and it did. a very old bottle still has a place in the medicine cabinet.

Got a cold on a trip to Toronto many many many moons ago, and was scheduled to visit the GM Diesel Div factory in a few days time (to see ASLAVs being built), so had to get on top of it fast. The friends we were staying with recommended Buckley's (accompanied by a knowing smirk ....). You are soooo right: tastes like fermented s**t!! Worst tasting but most effective medicine I've ever had. I still shudder just remembering it! Thanks for the reminder, Harry and Rob!

Mike

With my first-wife, if one of us coughed at night, the other would ask if they needed buckleys. If that person coughed again, they would get one spoonful. Trust me, the offender would try to suppress it as best as humanly possible. But after the first spoonful, if you coughed again....well you guessed it, the second spoonful. We obviously cared about each other....can't figure out why that relationship didn't work out.

The current bottle was upsetting my stomach. I have not eaten a real meal in almost 5 days. I have, however, managed to shed all the weight, and then some, that I put on during my Mexico trip.

I think I can safely say it is just about over. The sore throat has reduced to the point I ate a couple grilled cheese for breakfast, although that was with the help of a few throat lozenges. However, the wife was starting to feel symptoms yesterday and got worse this morning so headed into town for another test. She is now in bed so I guess I can return all of the kindness and caring she showed me this past 5 days. I actually like to overdue it, in the hopes that next time she feels she has to do the same. As I fluffed up her pillows, she kicked me out.

Methinks the old buckleys may have to come out if her attitude doesn't change towards the positive. But seriously though, I hope hers is even less than my experience was.

Rob, my wife has been telling me for years that:
Children get sick, men get ill and women get on with it!
I'm glad your mostly through it. Women are tough, but look after her. After all she puts up with you!

I absolutely know that Lynn.

I was driving with my daughter one day, and said to her that Linda (my better half) deserves a medal for putting up with me. My daughter, after a thoughtful pause, stated "I think you both deserve a medal".

Vick’s Vaporub on the soles of the feet plus a pair of heavy wool socks then straight to bed. If that doesn’t burn the cold and flu out, nothing will

Nope. Home-made chicken soup is the guaranteed cure. Turkey works almost as well. Grammy knows best.

Not sure how many others are so immature that they watch Southpark, but in the episode "Red Mans Greed" they cover SARS, which is only 98% survivable. In the end....yep, chicken soup.

Of course, being Southpark, they will insult many races and people in a single episode. I'm not sure how it would come across to foreign viewers who might not be as aware to the various cultural and historic references.

Default Better visit the drug store in the big city.....

Buckley is and has been available in pill form for a while...... day time version and night time knock you flat off your feet for at least 6 hours......

Admittedly not as potent as the bottle juice but it does work....

Still hiding from the bug so far.....

My wife has now tested positive. I have been trying to save her from the virus with at least a spoonful. She is resisting. I may have to tell Trudeau's minions, who will bundle her up to an isolation camp.

But seriously, I feel for the covid that thinks it is going to kick my wife's ass.

Thank you Chris. I only have fatigue and a stuffed up nose at this point. Despite my living in the same home as a covid positive person, my isolation ends on Saturday, so I will be able to go to town and get her some meals along with groceries. Being fully vaccinated (for all the good it did me) gives me that privilege. I had to ask the health nurse 3 times to confirm.

Being fully vaccinated doesn't mean you can't catch it (I'm fully vaccinated but working from home (one advantage of computers) and wear an N95/FFP3 mask if I have to go out shopping - that cuts the risk dramatically).

Vaccination reduces the risk of serious illness, so you may get it and feel like crap for a while but your immune system will deal with it.

Not being vaccinated means your body can be overwhelmed by the infection and "serious injury or death may result" (not to mention apparent permanent loss of the senses of smell and taste). (Covid affects the brain FFS!)

The "antivax idiots" and UK government are responsible for a very large number of unnecessary deaths and long-term illnesses.

Wishing you both the very best and a full and speedy recovery,
Chris.
