C60L GS truck in the Netherlands
An acquaintance of mine, Hendri Beumer, has an c.1943 Chevrolet C60L for sale. It was used commercially after WW2, of which it still has some traces like a coach-builder's plate, sprung driver's seat, PTO and engine swap for what seems to be a 235 cu.in. Chevrolet engine.
It was repainted in spurious military colours several decades ago after which it was bought by Hendri's father. He partly disassembled it and stored it in a barn where it has sit since. The chassis and drive train are largely complete and there are the remains of a converted 3-ton GS body. It also comes with a spare 216 cu.in. engine + gearbox. It needs a full restoration but interestingly it is an earlier model than most surviving C60Ls which are often 1945 APTs. See below and this folder: C60L spares or repair for pictures made by Alex and myself. Asking price is EUR 3500.- If you are interested to buy it, please contact Hendri [contact details deleted].

It wasn't the project for us, but I hope it goes to a good home. It seems a shame to break uit up for spares, as it's a pretty complete and realistic project with some hard to find bits like the overflow tank and the small covers on the doghouse. As Hanno says it's a wartime C60L with the civvy dash, which in my opinion makes it more interesting than a late 1945 APT.
We couldn't see if the engine turns, as at some stage the radiator was placed lower in the horse-shoe support, obscuring the crank handle hole. The radiator does look like the original Chevy one though. The head and valve cover look like 235, and presumably the whole engine is. Engine number seems to be FIII6A1156. It comes with a spare 216 and gearbox though, which does rotate on the crank handle. The chassis seems nice and solid, and unmolested. Cab is pretty good, but does require some welding in a few spots and the headlights seem to be non standard. The cab roof is a bit more rough and needs more welding. It's a roof with round hole. The body is pretty rough and is from a later GS, but at least you have a base to work from. It's stored in sections. picture: https://noord-hollandsarchief.nl/

I’m happy to report this C60L was sold today. It will stay in the Netherlands and it will be restored.

This C60L is back on the market. Now cleaned up and sitting on proper tyres.
Alex and I have seen this truck in person and while it needs a lot of work, it is an original Canadian Army wartime truck used to liberate the Netherlands. Most surviving C60Ls are the late war APTs which did not see action during WW2. See https://photos.app.goo.gl/fb4oib25cNGYC6Qa8 for a full set of photos. Note this is not mine - contact Jan Huisman on T: +31-599-331202 if you have an interest. Ad: https://www.facebook.com/groups/7942...92438890839894 Quote:

This C60L found a new owner, part of a group of productive restorers. So the future looks bright for this genuine liberator of the Netherlands
