The War and Peace Show 2005
I know, not everybody like the show in Beltring but it's 10 days to go.

Hanno,
I am due for a training class in the UK. We arrive 01Oct05 - too late for Beltring - what else is on in the UK that ( and the next ) weekend? Stewart |

So who was there? What did we miss - the dust? FV623 tells us it rained...
I saw that Aussie LP2A Carrier s/n 1499 I photographed in 2003 was there again, repainted and all! http://community.webshots.com/photo/...02940255ghuQNQ http://community.webshots.com/photo/...02946146upQjoB Source: http://community.webshots.com/album/402929192 |

Beltring

Just returned from 7 days at Beltring, a lot of new vehicles not seen there before. Yes, there was dust but good efforts were made by the fire crew to keep the roadways damped down with an ex-RAF Thornycroft Mk9 crash tender. Today, last day, Sunday, started with light drizzle which cleared away by 3pm allowing an aircraft to drop Poppies over the site. The water did not really penetrate the ground as when driven over the mud lifted away to reveal dust! Hanno, there were two South Australian Railway built carriers there, the other was one brought in by David Shopland and his son, James. Very good show from my point of view, met many from all parts of the world as usual. Tired out now, so off for an early night. Richard |

There were two Australian LP carriers?!? - in that case the picture above could be showing not LP2A s/n 1499 but the other. Good to hear it was a very good show! I know Rod `T-16` Shaver from the USA was there. Did any of our Canadians friends attend? I see that frightfully nice Mr Schickelgruber was there as well, I hope he didn't spoil the fun... H. |

The Aussie carrier no 1499 is still the same as last year, the one on the web site you saw is the Shoplands one. I did not see a data plate on it so do not know the number. They told me it was SA built. I noted the name "Sunshine" cast on the suspension (or was it wheels?) and know that they were farm machinery manufacturers near Melbourne, Vic. To the Down Under carrier experts, does that give a clue to who built it? Richard |

I am sorry you were not able to make it earlier for the show, I can imagine you were annoyed, it would have been possible to come in and stay for the evening, but it would still have not been enough time and the stalls would have been shut down by then. Hope you can make it again. There are some more from NSW making noises about coming over next year, sounds like they are coming in force! Richard |

fakes
all I have done is take a load of photos and pass them on to anyone who may be interested, so that you all can make up your minds.
a lot of money is spent trying to relive history and give us a feeling of what ww2 was all about. I dont think anyone is trying to fool us, but to give us an indication as to what these vehicles were like, with a lot of expense to themselves |

Fake CMPs
Quote:
Source Of course these are a real vehicle in their own right - they are of course ACCOs and were developed to replace the CMP - the prototype even used a CMP cab. Point is, they are often called Blitzes here too, even advertised as ACCO Blitzes. If there were other fakes, though I'd be up in arms - and how did Bart Vanderveen feel? His opinions were well put in W&T editorials.
