Chelsey 1991-2006
My hound died today. My wife is in Edmonton and my family is 3000km away ,so, you guys being my surrogate family get to hear it. She was just a dog but she's always been there for my thick and thin. She knew when to lie on my feet when they were cold and when I was sad she would come over for a pat on the head. She got a grossly distended stomach about 10am and died about 4:45pm when I ran to get my son from the sitters. I just came home from burying her , near the river on a hill.
She way always happy to see me come home whether I was an ass or not. I hope she is chasing rabbits and cats and getting in to the garbage where ever she is now. Just a dog but she sure got under my skin, going to miss her. Bark all you want now, Chelsey. Sean

Sad....
Sean...
Having gone through this many times I can only say... "It is one of the cruelties of this world that the longevity of our dogs is shorter than ours." The reason behind this great sadness is that there is no another living animal that is so similar to us, that treats us with great affection, never betrays us, and loves us unconditionally. Konrad Lorenz Get another...Every boy,big and little, needs a dog..

Sean, I've had to bury one of my Goldens once, and several cats. I know how much it hurts. Dunno what I'll do when my 14 year-old girl-cats expire. I've had them since six-weeks.
My heart is with you, sir.

Solace in the company of peers...
... I appreciate all the fine words and sentiment. Someone once said of a dog that " Dogs are the purest form of unconditional love". I can see that many of you feel the same way and it truly helps knowing that. She was my mate and my dog and I was her boy and she would have done anything for me, and it took nothing other than a walk and a pat to bring her to heaven. I'll get another but it'll be awhile. Strange , 100 years ago we would have probably eaten her and today here I am crushed.
