Default L of C

Sorry Howard...L of C = Line of Communication

All of Australia was broken up into areas called Line of Communication areas. These were the HQ's and fixed camp troop units such as workshops, AA protection, Ambulance/medical units and hospitals etc.

The white band at the bottom often had black letters denoting which state the L of C unit was from like 'Q' for Queensland etc.

Default for example

below is a photo of a 1/35 Australian Pattern CMP Ambulance I made. The unit sign on the passenger (RHS looking from front) side of the bumper shows that this is an ambulance unit (487 on red/green diagonal) from a Queensland Line of Communications unit. (white stripe with 'Q' in it) It also belongs to a Headquarters unit as it has the Rising Sun Tactical marking above the passenger side headlight.

hope this helps

Howard your truck may not have been a L of C unit truck but a 'Corps' truck with the white bar.

Below is a scan from Stephen Talberts Formation sign book showing the different set ups for the Unit Signs.

He does do excellent resto work for the price. Some of Bob's work can be seen in this thread. Here is a before and after pic of the gauge Bob did for me:

Thanks for the offer Bob, but I intended to graft an instrument cluster out of an '81 Commodore onto it.

Only joking....

Max. PM me with that number please. As you know I have a cab12 F60L but it seems too good to dismantle. I may just keep an eye out for something more suitable to wreck. ie buy another truck for parts for both. Thanks for your help.

Question New Discovery

Never noticed this before.
Writing coming through the fading paintwork at LH rear of cab.
Lower word "Checked"
Cannot make out upper word
Would this be from the original disposal auction?

Default '81 Commodore

Geez Howard get it right. You are restoring a FORD so you can't graft a GM product onto it. You should be using an '81 Falcon cluster.

Exclamation Commodore Dash

The reason why I selected a Commodore (GM) dash is because it shares the same top speed as the Blitz. And they are generally low KM due the cars falling in half early.

I recall many years ago an earlier version of the conform-o-dore was being driven around Australia by an audiovisual film crew (not me) for a tyre company. They hit a small culvert a bit hard, resulting in a crease across the centre of the roof, but as it was a hire car it was dropped back without comment, or repurcussion.

This Conform-o-dore has a nicely shock-tested dash with only 26 km on the clock. The wallopers managed to run for it and were not hurt, but must have had an interesting conversation with the truck driver who was possibly enjoying a nice nap at the time.

Question

Can anyone advise me what the PTO & winch brake lever/handles should look like as one of the fitted seems to be home made.
Three levers. handbrake, PTO behind it, winch brake on passenger side. Am I correct in guessing the F15 did not have a winch fitted as standard? Is the winch typical of what was fitted to these vehicles?

Default PTO

You're right, the F15 didn't have a transfer case or a winch. From memory the one on your F15 was driven from the gearbox PTO so all that was a non-standard add-on.

Another difference is it would have had single 16" wheels all round when new, but if you're going to rebuild it as used by your grandfather then you'd probably want to run with what you have.

And, oh yes, the rear axle assy has been replaced but you knew that already.

Keith

Question PTO

So did other Blitz PTO's get driven from gearbox? Was there a 'factory' handle for engaging PTO?
I had a look on the (sold) C60L but set-up is slightly different. PTO handle is a stumpy cast looking item. Obviously C60L has transfer case hence extra lever. And handle/shaft going through rear of cab is for tipper control. Is this PTO handle more typical? Or just on Chevs? And is the winch brake handle fitted to the F15 typical to standard fitments in Fords?
So many questions...

Default handle

Yes, the C60L is the right one for that type. The winch is engaged using the transfer case lever. All CMP winches were driven from the transfer case power take-off so that meant a two speed transfer case had to be fitted.

The only short wheelbase type with a factory winch was the gun tractor.
