Canadian Military Collectors Club...
national convention held here in Winnipeg Manitoba last weekend brought me a nice lead. Just picked up 100 Bofors/brass shell casings for a very resonable price, and 8 bofors ammo metal boxes 1952 marked holding 16 rounds per. Prairie Command was set up outside the convention, and well recieved by the club members.

HUW blackout switch info.
I just found the switches but the gentleman won't give them up just yet. A very nice man, he was kind enough to forward me pics and info on switches. Made by Amalgamated and is rated 6A-125V 3A-250V . No part number. Photo a little fuzzy. Cheers Rob

Bofors manuals
Hi Rob
Have you made any progress on your search for Bofors manuals etc? I am after a parts manual for an L60 in particular. Any info on the later Mark 11 and 12 would be gratefully received, the Bristol Bofors. Thanks David |

The Canadian Mk1 parts manual...
photocopy courtsey Clive and Rick at the Shilo museum is all I have at this point. What really blows me away is the rarity of the Bofors ammo box's 216/219 steel construction! Every Tom, Dick ,and Harry, has a Mine/ 2 pd/ 6pd/ 25 pd/ 50cal./20mm box in the garage, but no Bofors box! Where did they all go? Yes, there some British marked boxes in the UK,Preston is checking that out for me at Cobbaton Co.. but I need 8 to fill the LAAT.. F60-S LAAT and BOFORS are making their debut at our local LIONS CLUB car show here in Steinbach Manitoba this Sunday with the Prairie Command Club in attendance. Looking forward to it as the Bofors will be firing blank, black powder rounds in honor of Canada's Year Of The Veteran. Pics on Monday. Cheers Rob

I found a 216 box dated 1941 at a local farm auction last week. Cost me $2 (plus taxes so $2.28). It'll be yours next time I'm out your way. Also got a decent 20cwt cargo trailer dominion truck mfgr dated 10-45 made for an AID-CHI contract. Needs the fenders straightened out a bit, and missing the tailgate, but a nice condition trailer overall; cost me $60 (plus the damn taxes again). Not a bad auction overall. Tried to get Derk D a wooden 4.2 ammo box but the bidding went to $5 so I backed off. Can't spend too much in one day. |

Yes, it is a steel bolt together body. I'll post a photo on the 20cwt thread so as not to further hijack Rob Fast's thread. Rob |

I don't think I ever saw anyone get so excited about a rusty old tin box. Lucky for you the bidding didn't go to $5 cause that was my set limit for bidding on it. I didn't know at the time that you even wanted this particular box but I knew you were looking for anything Bofors. Actually, I guess I did see someone get that excited about a tin box; me, when I found the steel box which contained all the portable forge for my KL years ago, laying in Westbourne surplus yard. I likely had walked by it 100 times over the years. Enjoy your new box. Rob |

Huw and Bufors parts wanted
I have a wooden box similar to the drawing posted here. I friend gave it to me about a year ago and was not sure what it was for other then some sort of a ammunition box. The outside measurments are......12" x 24" and 9" deep. On the inside there is a crown and underneath of that are the letters A.M and under the letters is the year 1941. Would this be the type of box in the diagram ?
Thank You Eric |

for this Bofors box C-219. it is much appreciated. Slightly different than the C-216 pictured above in this thread, it is a very nice addition to the back ammo lockers on the back of the LAAT. I will send my cheque for your shipping costs PRONTO! I am finding out it is a tough box to find! Thanks again. Cheers Rob

Rob,
The Bofors Bible (1941 Handbook) says: C.216 (steel) 24 rounds in six chargers C.219 (steel) 24 rounds in rolled paper container so there seems to be something wrong with your packing system. C.216 boxes used to have a partition in the middle, with the ends offset in diagonal fashion, so that 3 loaded chargers (what we now call clips) could be laid flat on the bottom of the box, on top of each other. the other 3 chargers would be placed with the projectiles facing the other side, also on top of each other, in the other compartment. C.219 boxes would have 2 endplates riveted to the sides of the box, inside where the handles are, with spacers behind them to help them clear the irregularities of the side stamping. The rounds would be individually packed in cardboard tubes, and when the chargers are emptied by firing, used to re-fill them. Most boxes are now found with the partition or endplates removed, to increase the inside space, and the rivet holes will be the only remaining evidence of their former existence!

The markings on this C219 agree with Godwin's comments that the rounds are individually packed:

That's great info Godwin and Tony...
Yes, a little far to ship the 6 boxes I still need to fill all the bins. I have all the brass shells to fill them all, hopefully the boxes will show up someday. I guess each shell was packed in it's own cardboard sleeve? Cheers Rob

One more C-216 box...
5 or 6 to go! Found this one on EBAY , marked on the lid C-216 ASE 3-43. ASE an American manufacture stamp?? Did the Americans use the C-216/219 stamp on their 40mm box's also? Cheers Rob
