DDAY vehicle weights
Hi,
I've been studying pictures of vehicles during the Normandy invasion and many carry black A4 size paper labels pasted onto the vehicle showing the Weight/ Length/ Height/ Width in white letters and the detail chalked on. I will try and attach a picture but they were used for the correct loading of landing craft/ ships. Does anyone have a source for reproduction labels or have a clear picture of one to make some? Cheers, Tim. |

Wonder if the text is same as Gregg's Book
I wonder if this is not the source of the text information of Bill Gregg's Canada's Fighting Vehicles Europe 1943-45 Volume 1. The Introduction "This book consists of two parts. The first is essentially a photo facsimile of the original 'Vehicle Data Book' issued in March 1944, by Canadian Military Headquarters in England."
My scanner is down or I would include a sample page.

Studying the pictures it seems as if they are made of black card, pasted on, and easily torn off after disembarkation. The layout is:
WT. HT. LTH. WTH. Black background with a white border. I'm sure they will be easy to reproduce but it would be nice if someone has access to an original. Thanks, Tim. |
