Found this today .Well worth de 5 hours of driving . Early wartime paint ( brown ) . Complete , tested and working . Exactly the model found in the few No 19 HP equiped Wireless -5 trucks during the war . The 10LS-6 generators that were used post war were painted dark green in the same style as the M series trucks . Rob Love posted such an example he found posted on Kijiji a little way back .

Here we have a view of the controls : Start-stop buttons , AC - DC switches , Voltmeters & Ampmeter . Simple but effective and still working 78 years later ! I have to remove the cage, mount the generator on a steel plate and fit a flexible exhaust pipe in order to slide it in place in the generator compartment .

Restoration question on AC fuel pump : How the heck do i get that diaphragm off the stem to put on a new one ? I am turning left , turning right and it will not unscrew .

There's not a lot of space on that table, so you're probably looking at a SLIDEX wallet and some cards, plus message pads and suchlike. (That assumes that the cipher office was not separate, of course, in which case it would just be used for booking messages in, out and through, with the signal office elsewhere.

You may want to have a read of Signal Training Volume V (1938), Signal Office Procedure, and Signal Training (All Arms), Pamphlet No.5, Signal Procedure 1942 or the later Radio Telephony 1943 + part 2 Morse Telegraphy. (Oh, and Pamphlet 8, Signal Office Working (1942 and 1944).

This shield came with every 2K1 box but was only used when equiped with a Onan 10 LS -6 110 V generator . It is used to protect the wiring inside the generator compartment from the hot exhaust pipe of the Onan . Wanted to complete my restoration . Photo credit : Reg Hodgson

For reference : Illustration of the generator found in the user manual that was included in the dedicated tool box ( thanks Dirk Derin ) . The text in the manuel makes reference to the control panel that is omitted on the illustration . The gas tank also looks larger on the actual generator than on the illustration. I suspect the manual uses the illustration of a US Army version of the generator .

That illustration might even be from a civilian manual. Note the long fingernails on the hands ! Possibly drawn by someone not familiar with the military or even working men. (I am not being sexist here and support everyone's right to have long fingernails !)

Thank you David . You are probably right . In the past i have come across this phenomenon. Military production outpaced instructional material and civilian material was used as a stop gap solution.

Hi, i have this fire extinguisher installed in the box . Does anyone have information wether it is period correct please ? Was this common to have the word «* Army*» pressed on the standard hand extinguisher? Thanks .

Yes period correct. They are the same as the civilian ones which means they are reasonably easy to find. I've never seen one with ARMY embossed on the top like yours, does the label say made in Canada? I have some marked DND ARMY but it is on the top line of the instruction plate on the side.

There are several versions of the DND ARMY fire extinguishers. The ones ahown are my favorite. You can also find them stamped on the edge of the top, as well as find the DND ARMY on the label at the top.
I have also seen them with CPR on the top, so it looks like pyrene would custom make them for companies or departments.

I suppose a civilian extinguisher would be fine, but not one with insurance company markings on the label, which are quite common.

My favorite surplus yard still has dozens and dozens of these extinguishers, and not all are DND marked.

Don't kid yourself, they were marked because if they found one in your kitchen it was proof you pilfered it from your employer.

I find they're like those 2 gal. POL cans, buy them when you find them because you need several for each vehicle (standard CMPs luckily only one).

Started installing antennas . One receive , one send as per no 19 HP set instructions . Two No 8 bases on two opposite chimneys as to avoid interference as much as possible .

Because of the lack of space i decided to install horizontal aerials temporarily at least till i move the truck outside . Antennae set , ground set , batteries set , control box set : Next , a first reception test on the No 19 set in the next few days ....Will keep you posted .

Removed the covers on the antennae chimneys . Under the top covers i found bolt hole patterns for the No 9 base to the left and the No 8 base to the right . On the center chimney cover i found this peculiar pattern of 4 1/2 in X 4 1/2 in . What antenna base uses that bolt pattern ? Maybe post-war use with other radios ?

4 holes on 4.5" square are (I think) for Aerial Base No.3, which you can't feed from underneath - it is top-feed only, usually via a 'black-out' box and feed-through insulator on the end wall of the "house-type" body. (Hence the solid plate on the existing 'chimney'.)

If you needed a 'through the base' feed for a high-power set, there was a Tufnol plate that replaced the steel one with a large central hole and 6 holes in a hexagon pattern that match Insulator, W/T 'H' (a large ceramic mushroom type) that formed part of "Aerial Lead-in No.16" (It had a Base No.3 on a plate fitted to the Insulator 'H' and the flexible rubber dome was bypassed by braid straps to the plate.)

For insulators on a frame at the front of the 'house' body there was an adapter plate (ZA.21283) with 10 studs - 4 to fit the support frame and 6 for the insulator assembly.

I can probably supply photographs if required, but it means fighting my way past piles of stuff to find the items concerned.

Both bases take Aerial Rods 'D' (the 34-ft steel vertical aerial), and there was a metal 'cage' to support the weight of tall aerials and prevent the Base No.3 rubber dome collapsing. It was later replaced by Aerial Base No.25 which had a metal socket for the aerial rods and did away with the rubber Base No.3 altogether - it just used the Insulator 'H'.
