tire and rim
The tires are aircraft tires that say they are 32 x 8.8 14ply tubeless, though they have tubes.

Hitch
A look at the hitch and empty area where the hydraulic pump would go.

hitch closeup
The lunette ring is bolted to this hunk of cast metal and slides back and forth as pulling and pushing of the trailer applies. The crossbar that the hitch is in contact with ,and also attached to with the spring , increases either force or travel (I would have to measure the length of the levers welded to the crossbar ) to push on the hydraulic pump. The spring just keeps the crossbar tight to the end of the lunette ring shaft. And the pump is gone.

note the solid turn table and the grease nipple for the deck by the data plates. Also I don't know what the ET18 means on the front. The PFRA that owned the trailer has had it since the 60's and the guys said they never had a marking system like it.
front rear and below. and a rear view. The hitch was welded on afterwards.

"All" you need to do is fabricate a GS body, of which Mike Calnan has an example so he can provide dimensions. The maintenance manual / parts list you need to get hold of is SB-13. I would not be surprised the hydraulic pump is a standard Ford master brake cylinder (my 20-cwt trailer has Ford mechanicals throughout). The love for trailers is a family thing, eh? H. |

Canada's fighting vehicles
Once again that book comes to the rescue. Interesting that the box is all metal, makes it a bit more of a challenge. In the serial number 21-4M-F-GS-2-1 I wonder what the 21 and the -2-1 stand for. Also ,I see in the book that the 20-cwt, GS has "impact brakes" also and the hitch setup to mount the hardware looks almost identical to mine. If you are out and about with a Camera, Hanno, how about a picture or two of the master cylinder for the archives. Maybe a serial number too.
As for the wagon master, he is just biding his time ntil he can get to the keys for something. Sean

Finding someone with the AEDB design records might help too, that's how I found out about the Ford brake parts on my 20-cwt trailer. A serial number I have not found (yet). H. |

cmp trailer brake
Great picture Hanno, thanks.
I have everything in the photo master cyclinder mount plate etc., except the master brake cylinder, even the hydraulic line and fitting is sitting there. I am not sure I know who Mike Calnan is. His GS wagon is complete? And located where? ANy heads up on the SB-13 manual ? Sean PS: Hows the littlest one doing Hanno?

Mike Calnan = Gunner, see his postings in this thread above. H. PS: The wee one is doing great, keeping us up at night every now and then, but otherwise very sweet. Not sure if sheŽd pay attention to Shamus in his cool ride already, but I guess that wonŽt be long : |

having finished my preemployment welding course on friday , with a 95% average I might add , I am ready to start to tackle the steel body of my GS trailer. A wood deck was put on mine so I need some decent measurements to start the reproduction. Any chance of getting some dimensions and pics when the snow melts? cheers Sean

GS wagon box
Hi Sean:
My trailer is the rusted heap in Bob carriere's photos above, but, I do have an original box mounted, in all places, on the back of my IHC halftrack. I bought the halftrack from the late (and Great) Bill Gregg and he told me that it was an army workshop mod to make a fitter vehicle for transporting and swapping tank engines. makes sense as the 1/2 tk also has the fittings for a gin pole on the front winch mount. Anyway, the trailer box is well fitted onto the back of the 1/2 tk and will be easy to measure when I can get at things in warmer weather (its buried inside the barn three rows back in the "some day I'll have time to restore it" line-up! I will probably have it copied here in Ottawa by a truck body mfr when I do the trailer up. Nothing too complicated- all flat panels and easily bent reinforcements. The tailgate might be the most complex part as it has foot holes in it! I could likely weld one up myself but on 5 Feb Her Majesty is shipping me out yet again and I will be away until the end of May. I'll still be on net so I'll continue posting. Hope you don't mind waiting that long. Cheers! Mike

trailer measurements
Hi Mike,
that Queen of yours certainly keeps you hopping! As for measurements, they can certainly wait , just knowing they still exist somewhere makes for muc easier breathing. Let me know if you need anything from this end. thx Sean

Since Hanno has gone to the trouble of resurrecting a long dead thread, I thought I might as well show some photos of a similar trailer I picked up at the local auction last summer. Unfortunately someone had recently swiped the data plate from it. It is sporting some 16.5" california winter tires (no tread) on the original cmp rims which I guess is one way of dealing with the larger rim diameters. I needed another trailer like I needed a hole in the head. But the disease we suffer from does not let us pass up any CMP. So it will wait for a cargo body to appear. I have seen a number of the trailer cargo bodies around Saskatchewan, in fact I think I even had one myself for a time, but ended up leaving it at a scrapyard a number of years back during a yard cleanup. |

Box dimensions
Hanno/Rob:
Thanks for bringing this back to the front! I had forgotten that I promised Sean the box dimensions and he was obviously too much of a Gent to remind me I'll put it back on the things to do list for this summer when I get back from Africa, again! Sean: we should get this done about the time that Shamus asks for the truck keys! Mike Tlr, 21-4M-F-GS-2-1 Tlr, 1/4 ton, M100 Cdn Tlr, 3/4 ton, M101 Cdn Tlr, 1/4 ton, M101A1 Cdn Tlr, 3/4 ton, M101 Cdn 2 Tlr, 1 1/4 ton, M105 Cdn Tlr, 1 1/4 ton, M105A1 Cdn Tlr, Water, M625 Cdn Tlr, Mor, Mk II Tlr, Bantam, 1/4 ton, T3-C Tlr, float, tri-axle Tlr, home made, flat deck for carrying the PaK 36 I normally don't do the list of "my stuff" but I wanted to have some fun and show that I like trailers! Artillery pieces (which some misinformed bin-rats think are just funny trailers!) even more!! Politically correct notice: I respect bin-rats and count many highly professional bin-rats as close and dear friends... doesn't stop me from calling them bin-rats!
