For the last 12 yrs I have been driving past the Carrier .Did He give you allot of extra stuff with it
He had prommised a running engine and some spare track. How was the arrangements to ship it across Canada.cost ectra I have always been a chicken s...t for shipping stuff Jeff p.s if you go on you tube my carrier is the one driving shooting the Bren Gun out the front. |

He gave me a Engine/Transmission that is not in running condition and in very rough shape and I am still trying to find out if they are from the carrier or not.
The suspension and final drives are in good shape. I did not get extra track although that would have been nice. I wish he had told me about it I might have made a deal for that as well. I shipped it through a company myself for extra cost. In the end it probably cost me more than it was worth but I have not had the greatest luck finding a carrier in good shape. So, I made the leap and decided to restore one from the ground up. |

Well its not looking good for my engine.
![]() It looks like it was exposed to the elements far too long. There was a hornets nest in under the head formed all through the valve springs and I have 2 badly cracked bores, both into the water housing. ![]() Braising does not look like much of an option, and boring it out and installing a sleeve I'm guessing would be a far too expensive venture. I'm going to check it out anyway and hope for the best. May have to search for a new block. |

Well, after a good nights sleep I decided to hit the internet and see what I could come up with. I took a really good look at the schematics, on a Flat Head V8 site. For those who don't know about it, here is the link http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_home.htm
It is a great site, very useful. I noticed on one of the scematics that there are sleeves and low and behold Mac's carry's them. So, there is hope ![]() There are numbers on the Cylinder heads and I looked them up to see what they mean. the number is 81A-6049-A, from what I could find the 81A indicates a passenger Vehicle engine, 85hp from 1938. Was this number normally on carrier engines or is this my indication that I have a civilian engine? |

careful - note the shop tag indicated that the block has already been machined/re-built.
Look in the local auto club newsletters, ford club websites, etc - there's stuff still out there. Also be ready for the valves to be stuck, etc, especially if the engine turns over easy by hand.

i got my flathead off ebay for 60.00. it needed to be rebuilt but the block was ok and just needed oversized rings. a blown piston may cost you farrrrr more than that. but the rebuild shop will fix it for you.

I may have a spare engine/transmission. Both will require work, but thats all part of the fun...Let me do some digging. |
