Default your tank hunter carrier.

Hi Eric, regarding the tank hunter carrier you have there, I am trying at the moment to make the covers which go over the petrol tanks, i have noticed in your pictures of the tank hunter, it still has the angle iron pieces for supporting the covers still attached to the engine rails (long rails which run either side of the engine for supporting the engine cover assembly), I think someone has mounted the battery tray on the right hand side angle iron pieces on your tank hunter carrier. I need to know how the angle iron pieces differ from a standard mk1 carrier, if you have any photos of this area that would be great , many thanks kevin.

That's quite a cut down. At least you have the Ford badge.

Hi Eric, Thanks for the pictures, In picture two, the cross pieace next to the battery tray, with a central hole in it , would you say this was original or has it been welded in both ends, it appears welded at the engine end to the angle iron support piece, Does that angle iron support piece have any other holes drilled in it, I am looking for a possibe 3/8" bsf tapped hole?.

thanks kevin.

Would that chassis be from a 1500wt? There used to be a guy in Bacroft who had a couple 1500wt's parked behind his mother's place down beside the old hospital in Bancroft Ont. One I remember he had one painted all red. Not sure if he still has them or not

Good morning Kevin:

I checked out that angle iron next to the battery box, to me it looks like someone has added it. It is welded at both ends and appears to be a scrap piece and not factory as they are not clean cuts.

Well I have a couple of new treasures. One is brend new and one is 65 years old. I have my first grandchild, a little baby girl born August 30th. She is a sweetheart and grampa is going to spoil her rotten.
The next I just bought tonight. It is a Canadian model 1946 Dodge troop carrier. The fella I got it from has welded a old fargo pickup cab on it. He used it as a snowplow since 1961. He bought it from a fella who bought it new after the war. It has not run in couple years but started right up and runs like a charm. Very complete truck wilth all data plates in place, all lights there. Seats are still in back but rotted, extra tire as well he said maybe even 2 tires. Hardware all the for wood frames on box as well. I am very happy to have got this one. Original engine and winch as well. I took some pictures, when I get them loaded on computer I will post the pictures.
Tommorrow going to look at a old pedal car for my granddaughter and will have it restored for her, have to get her interested in grampas stuff (junk) as my better calls it still.

Cheers

Eric

I finally brought home my newest truck, picked it up last sunday. When i purchased it I was told it was a 1946, but when I got it home I looked at the data plates and it turned out to be a 1945. All datat plates are on it. Runs like a charm as does the winch. I'm very happy with it, glad I bought it. Looks out of place though being as it is a dodge in the midst of all my fords. I will post some pictures hopefully next weekend when my sons are in town and can show this old guy how to post pictures again.

Cheers
Eric

My wife is my spotter. She knows what to look for and might even have a better eagle eye than me. Probably because when we are out driving, I am driving watching the road and she is scanning the bushes for "junk".
So far she has spotted plenty of M series stuff, the typical dueces and M37 variants. I think she needs to look harder for carriers and cmps.
On a side note, if you have a wife who is supportive of your hobby, it might be best to educate her on the value of stuff. This can work two ways, so take it for what its worth and then decide.
1) if you kick the bucket, at least your "junk" brings in honest money to the family or
2) if she leaves, at least she knows what your junk is worth when she takes half!
I suppose it all depends on whether or not you want her to know.
My last buy was my Manac 3/4 ton trailer. This was an easy one. We live rural and have to haul all or garbage to the local landfill. The backseat or trunk of her Honda won't do and my service truck is usually full of tools and equipment. She was the one that said to me that we needed a trailer. Didn't say what kind...
It does help out though when I buy something, flip it and make some $$$ and point out this fact. Usually a nice dinner or a treat for her follows and it keeps things running smooth. Its all about the "smooth factor"

I have to agree with you Chris. I used the line on my wife about if I was to kick off, told her that the stuff is worth a bit and would be a bit more cash for her after the life insurance. She is getting better with my prizes now, she knows there are a lot that I would like to buy but don't. Plus I tell her it is all part of our canadian history and they don't make this stuff anymore. I just hate thinking of all the things that have been lost to the scrap yards. So till the day my name is on the big guy's calander I will keep looking for and bringing home whatever I can.

Eric, there is a bit more to things as well.
I know lots of guys who blow all kinds of money playing golf, pool, drinking, horse racing, gambling etc etc. My lady knows where to find me and the bills are paid and groceries first on the table.
Secondly, it is guys like you who retreive all these treasures and protect them from the scrapper. One day you will loose interest, have to sell, want to fund other projects or plain realize you have too much stuff. For other collectors, this is how many guys end up with a project to work on or a place to source some much needed parts and or pieces.
I myself have run the gamunt, buying up a whole lot, building my project and then selling off the surplus to recoup funds or re-invest in another project.

i woke up one morning and saw a centaur for sale on ebay, by midday i'd bought it and the charioteer stood next to it aswell. that little lot came to £40k (which i didn't actually have at the time) when i got home from work that night i told the missus, she was not happy infact she's still not happy but i think it eased the pain for her when i explained that i hadn't actually spent a single penny, i'd invested the money so it was simply a case of liquidity
i'd changed the cash into an asset of equal or greater value. remember these words and learn them so when the other half accuses you of squandering money just explain "that it is simply a case of liquidity and you've acquired an asset of equal or greater value to the initial investment". just try not to look guilty when you say it

I'm going to try that! The "it only cost $5.00" kinda doesn't work anymore!

Default Newest old truck

Here are some pictures of my last treasure. As you can see the guy I bought it from welded on a cab from a old Fargo on this one. He had a big V plow on it, he plowed about 3 kms of road to get to the highway in winter. He owned the truck since 1960.
It is complete other than horn, windshield frame, seats, tailgate and wood in bed of truck. Box rusted but not overly bad, just on corners of storage boxes. All hardware present for troop seats.
The steering wheel is like brand new as was not exposed to elements since it had the cab on it, also all data plates are present.
It was made by Chrysler Corporation of Canada Limited. Date of Manufacture July 13 1945
