Default Dimensions..... markings

Any particular markings to look for...... diameter x thickness of the pulley...


....as I may have one in the barn....way to big for what I will ever do.....


Barry can you supply above info?? more detailed photos out of its resting place....

Default Van Hove Herman just PM'd me...

looking for a little info on this snatch block location Barry pleasantly surprised us with. He is looking for distance between the hold down bracket...12 inches...and a pic of the hinge used, it looks like a door hinge to me. So the snatch block itself is about a 11 1/2 inch wide..single pulley. Barry maybe you can help us out here? I hope this helps Van Hove. I am still looking for the snatch block. Cheers for now, my golf course just got hit with 2 inches of rain in 20 minutes, a wild event. The work starts in the morning. Rob

Default snatch block

Rob,
Thanks for looking.I have 2 similar blocks but didn't know if one of the two
was fitted a bracket as yours.
The small one has a pulley of 4 1/2",an axle of 5/8",metal side plates are 5" large,overhaul lenght is 14 1/2", 1 1/4" large side brackets and a total weight of 5 kg.
The large one is made by CREATIVE METALS CO SF,thinking San Fransisco.
This has a pulley of 6",an axle of 1 1/4",metal side plates are 7 1/4" large,overhaul lenght is 19", 2" large side brackets and a total weight of 13 kg.Have no idea of the max. load of these.
The correct block must have a greater pulley than these.

Rob, this is a different pulley than the one in the photo but it is supposed to be out of a FAT. I have posted on here before how a friend of mine's father who was an RCAF mechanic stripped vehicles at the disposal site at Hagersville Ontario at the end of the war. This is where all the vehicles that Elliot's in Newtonville bought. Bruce Parker's FOX for example. He would put radios in one pile, extinguishers in another, tools in another and so on. All the piles were bought by scrapers or surplus dealers. Much of it went to Levy's in Toronto. As sometimes happens all the pieces didn't get in the right pile if you know what I mean. Anyway he gave me this block and a couple of other things when I became interested in military vehicles. He remained a mechanic his whole life.
The snatch block body is 9X11.5 if I remember correctly and has a 7/8" shaft.
I used this in my tow truck for years.

Apologies to Bob C. I never got any notifications about additional posts on this thread so until today I hadn't looked at it. I am finally no longer on the dial up from hell so things go a little smoother.

Default If it is snatch block for the winch

Hi

The snatch block for use with the winch is going to be fairly large with the pulley wheel more that 8 inch in diameter with a 1 inch diameter grove just to work with the 11/16ths winch cable. The winch cable on a CMP makes the cable on US trucks look thin.

The snatch block is a very useful and necessary tool to go with the winch kit. Do you have the winch scotches?

Default A beautiful evening here in Manitoba...

Still looking for the Carter manual choke carb for the mid 50's 235, but we took the Rochester auto choke carb out of the FAT this week and replaced it with a manual choke Rochester. Starting like a gem and every time I see this beast running I realize what a beautiful piece of Canadian military history it is. I hope you guys don't get tired of my pics. Tony putting her thru the paces.

Are you looking at the 3 beehive lamps sometimes called Identification lamps, indicating a larger vehicle (>80" wide)? Similar lamps were retrofitted to My M135 and I have seen the remnants on CMPs picked up. Normally they would be added when the truck was civil registered but my M135 had never been civilianized so DND must have been adding these lamps at some time.

The CMP in the background also has this 3-light fixture.

Many years ago at Princess Auto in Winnipeg, they had a late Chev Cab 13, 15-cwt Wireless truck sitting on it's frame in a field to the left of the front of the old Quonset hut building John used to work out of. It had been a traffic accident write off direct from the Army and it also had one of those 'clearance' lamps mounted, but not to the leading edge of the roof, as those in this photo appear to be. The lamps at Princess were mounted on top of the front edge of the roof, lamps pointing upwards.

I'm envious, yes they make the FAT look great! We'll have to to have a FAT reunion maybe in Calgary at some point.
Pic of an Iltis on the back of the CGT just pulled it from Chilliwack for the Hyack pRade tomorrow, I think it's lighter than the limber.

I note the board you are looking for is the no2mk1. I ran out to the shed and my larger one is a no3mk1. I'll keep my eyes open for a no2.

Prefair had a stack of these (no3mk1) a few years ago. The guy tried to get me to buy the whole pile, but I used self restraint and only brought 4 of them home. Almost cost me as much as the whole pile price.

Default A couple of nice pics?

Spent the day at our local Steinbach Lions Car Show/Steinbach North Airport open house. The FAT and 17 PDR. were the featured vehicle in the event brochure, Classic cars, Harvard, Trojan, a bad weather day for flight. Humid, big spotty thunder/rain cells, but some general excitement.
