Default front armour thickness

Hi Colin, I have read that front armour is 10mm thick, just had a measure up of my front armour on my LP2 and without paint/rust got a measurement of 11.65mm. my question is all of your patches you have put in all look faultless, do you have a step in one side that I cant see or are you able to get new steel of the correct thickness?
your posts are an awesome motivator, cheers Lew

Thanks Anthony, I too love my shed. It's a shame you have to wait till the latter years to get one.
This mornings effort and the rest of the day will be with my wife and kids.

Now here's some interesting little parts to make. I never took any notice before that there is L/H and R/H. Very fiddly, time consuming to make and they are normaly all gone.

Your own production line Colin. Very cool. I think your shed needs an offical name. The "something" workshops.

Good idea Colin. I need one. It is a quite rare piece and I think that apart from the two on mine, I have only seen them on about 3 other carriers.

Where will we get the glass from? I have the remains of one set and it is made up of 3 (I think) seperate pieces instead of one.

Regards Rick.

Its a peice of 5mm laminated glass (the riveted carriers are made of 4.5mm which is a bit harder to find these days)

One that I have is a 2 piece 5mm and 3mm. I don't know if they were all the same as I have found a lot of variations while doing these. Some are quite minor and others very surprising.
I had a reasonable day getting quite a bit done. The floor is in remarkable condition as with the rest of the steel work. They will be off to the grit blasters next week.

Howdy! Just got 2 of the 3 carriers back from the blasters. I get the other one tomorrow, so its time for a bit of the old "Protec" red oxide primer. Now is the more rewarding stuff. Sorry if the pictures look boring!

Default Primers

Hi Colin - for my information, you use Protec red oxide primer whereas I us Protec Etch primer which is grey. Your thoughts on the differences please.

Colin, the broken remains of the glass I have are the same as yours. Two pieces, 1 x 5mm and 1x3mm. both laminated.
Rick.

BTW. I think your showing off now!! (what most of us would do for the crane and other great lifting equiptment you have.)

Hi all, Phil, I was more refering to the guys that are not into armour as much as we are.
Bob, I don't think there is any difference for what we are doing except for the price and red covers blasted steel a lot better than the grey. I have been using red oxide for the last 25 years or so.
Rick, I will be getting the glass done as well so I'll have a heap done for corowa and I am very lucky to have such great equipment. Good for lifting my expectations.
Colin.

Default Phenomenal!

I cant think of any new superlatives Colin to describe this thread and the work your doing.

I just glanced at the clock and noticed, I have been looking at this thread for over an hour. It is truly mesmerising...

It is fantastic to think of all the history you're preserving....

Just one question....what the heck are your going to do with all these when they're finished??

Maybe invade Victoria and take it in a classic 'Pincer movement' ???

That's the difference. In that Hour Colin would have the hulls painted & knocked up a replica mount.

Default Restoration

I was going to suggest I film a timelapse but it's happening too quickly for the camera to see!

If Colin can do armour in this timeframe then a softskin restoration from a rusty hulk with most parts missing would be a matter of mere minutes.

Hey Colin,
We found this box full of goodies on a farm bump but I don't know what the plates with the four holes are for, any clues?

They look like 2lb case mounts. Bren mounts and port covers. Perhaps they came off a 2lb tank attack carrier. Nice little find just the same. We don't have those finds here in Adelaide.

Border raids, whilst not unique to Australia are now part of the very fibre of our being, our psyche and the Australian Way.
