Hanno.
At first I thought you were referring to ordnance shells and then realized it must be sea shells you were referring to (I hope!). Being used in the construction industry somehow, I assume. David |

It was a common source of grit additive for making mortar (the wet sloppy stuff, not the ordnance!) but I think that's largely a thing of the past now. Shell-grit mortar was common in early colonial construction in Australia, for example.
'Wicked-pedia' also state - "Shell grit is coarsely ground or broken seashells. It is used, among other things, by birds as a source of calcium for egg shell production, and to aid digestion. Other uses include protecting plants from slugs or snails[1] and in aquariums." Mike |

Seashells indeed
Mostly used for seashell lime which is used as a soil fertilizer, as I understand it.

The Dutch troop carriers in AFG had roll cages around the bed, and the troops sat in 5-point harnesses and sort-of person shaped conformal seats. Not the bouncy oak benches I've enjoyed.

Here is an interesting "In the background", this was taken at Cold Lake AB. They are selling of an old truck and this was one of the photos showing the interior.

This was a modification put in place after a truck with the standard bouncy wooden benches rolled over during exercise in Norway, killing and injuring the soldiers traveling in the back.

Family now well trained
Hi All
Family is now very well trained any time the find a picture of CMP anywhere they show it or send it to me. Just now my wife Margaret (retired reference and children's librarian) found this post war CMP. If you are curious what she was looking up "Jasper Maskelyne (1902–1973) was a British stage magician in the 1930s and 1940s. He was one of an established family of stage magicians, the son of Nevil Maskelyne and a grandson of John Nevil Maskelyne. He is most remembered, however, for his entertaining accounts of his work for British military intelligence during the Second World War, in which he claims that he created large-scale ruses, deception, and camouflage." Now I'll have to read more about his war time work. Cheers Phil

The motorcycle in the foreground is as common as dirt compared to what I believe is the (only) prototype Pigeon Loft trailer. |

What do you think?
Hi All
What do you see in the center? Could it be one of the CBC HUPs? https://youtu.be/N1AKeJ16spg?t=55s Cheers Phil

Brent,
Is the picture dated? It looks like there is a Dodge D8A right next to the first Scout car. Alex

Tony, Well spotted. The prime mover in the foreground, looks like a GMC. The same company had a Yankee Joe and house moving trailer which was parked up next to the railway line in Rutherglen about 25 years ago. I have some photos somewhere but I can't put my hand on them at the moment. The trailers were 2 pairs of 16inch limber wheels on a short axle about 2 feet apart with a 12 inch square, long Oregon beam between them.
Regards and Merry Christmas, Rick.

Hi Richard, Yes, you are right, but this thread refers to Blitz's, Chev and Ford so I didn't count the Morris Commercials on purpose.
. Regards Rick.

CMPs
I think the cab 12s in the background are mostly Fords with the narrower spring bumper.
