Hello Richie,
Excellent thread on a job well done! But could you please attach the pictures to your posting instead of using a link to an externally hosted picture? I'm asking as history tells us that those externally linked pictures disappear one day, and then a useful thread like this becomes useless. Thanks in advance! Hanno MLU Administrator

Well I have the shoes back and the drums will be there waiting when I get home, the company recommended woven pads which is as per the comments above, so good call !
The company worked out what I needed and made the pads oversize they are just over 12mm thick ! So will get them all built back up and tracks back on when I get home later !

If you get the shoes touching around the best part of the lining, it will good because modern lining (non-asbestos) can take ages to bed in and you should get good steering and brake performance immediately. regards, Richard

The nearside drum is on but like I say it binds, and the adjuster is at it's smallest, I can still turn the drum by hand so I am in two minds to take more off or let the drum take any high spots off. Contact area is huge now so I hope the thing stops and steers as good as I anticipate.

Brakes back on ! Had to shape the shoes with a grinder and paddle disc.. Roasting hot day, boiler suit zipped right up, respirator and visor, and gloves.... Bloody aweful ! Despite this I am still itchy itchy itchy ! Third shower on its way methinks
However the carrier starts, stops, and steers like a champ. !

Rich, one thing you need to remember next weeks holiday season, if your carrier catches fire or even blows up your on holiday, keep smiling, relax chill and fix it later, a static display is just as good, don't worry, enjoy the weather, good company. It's just a lump of metal at the end of the day, life's to short to worry, enjoy.
Kev.

She should be good to go now, it's more a case of paying a disgusting amount of money to get it there... If it went bang and was as you say a static display I would be sick !!!
Not a prize winner by any stretch, but from what I started with to where she is now... She is a winner in my mind :-)

Yeah.... But I did boil wearing it
![]() They will need bedding in a wee but as the drums will need to take the high spots off the shoes, they are ni on there, but doing it by hand even though I blocked them back to finish.... There will be high spots. ![]()

Rich, run the carrier with the tracks off, in gear, brake and accelerator applied together, this will bed them in......keep an eye on your drum temperatures.

Rich, you aren't going to bed them in like that. You may as well just do it as you use it. If it's too tight you'll need to drop the drum off again.

Yeah I know... Didn't feel polite by saying it... They are not too tight and the bedding in will be done whilst driving ;-)

Got and idea for bedding your brakes in ! A 24 hour carrier relay in the Arena at W & P or else figure of eights like Kings Troop RHA - we could get drivers to pay a fee to charity !

Richie, here's a nice shot of an Italian campaign 3" mortar carrier in your colour scheme, note the ingenious way of carrying a spare wheel, 'mortar tube bracket', nice detailed character picture.

I had an idea about a boat race involving carriers and tracks... Two man teams per carrier... Tracks broken and withdrawn from the vehicle... Last team to fit the tracks gets a penalty.
However Sbi have just torn a muscle in my back , I can no longer put up a reasonable standard or competition ! Kev I have never seen that image before, excellent quality ! If the carrier was displaying that scheme, the chances are it came in via Bizzerta and perhaps had a stint on Op Husky.

Well got the carrier back yesterday so decided to start to fit the antenna bracket base.
This year will hopefully be one for the detail stuff , I still have to fabricate the radio battery box, the gunners seat, and a number of bins etc etc. Then I can get the radio and intercom kit fitted. ! ![]()

It was a pleasure to meet you on site and see the results of all your work.
It was great to get a ride in, and I hope those video shots came out, the carrier is not a good platform for filming on the move! I never asked if the fuel valve solved the issue. How is it going? In the antipodes we all use outboard motor hand primers to get the fuel up to the pump prior to start up after a long period in the shed. Best wishes for the final fit out of the carrier. It looks great already. Rob |

Since you, Lynn, kiwi Shaun and I stripped the pump down and rebuilt it, it hasn't missed a beat ! Took her for a spin today still not 100% happy with the steering and brakes, so will check it over tomorrow and adjust where needed.
